Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

That may be where we begin... and unfortunately, others within our inner circle will observe and take advantage of this, leading to all manner of mental and physical abuse. At least, for some of us. In turn, this leads to all sorts of psychological and psychiatric conditions when the mind is...

Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

That's sort of my attitude at my age, as well. A few years from retirement... but my children 30 & 32 this weekend (time flies)... will be right in the middle of all of this transition. At work, I see my managers and supervisors still in the mode of reacting to things in the moment as opposed...

Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

I am thinking, given what is going to happen to society, the economic structures, the political systems that will ultimately change dramatically with AI and embodied AI (autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots)... the fear and uncertainty that we will experience during this transitional...

Why many autistic people focus on that?

All of this is highly nuanced This is my personal situation. Take the fuel out of their fire. I'm not going to put up with any of your crap. I'm not your target. On the other hand, "pride" can also be one of the faces of an egotistical personality... someone you don't want to be around...

Why many autistic people focus on that?

In the US, we have a Gay Pride month, a Black History month... marginalized people taking back their identity with pride in some attempt to diminish the discrimination and attitudes of the past. I am not a huge fan of any sort of cultural, religious, moral, or political "posturing"...

Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

I do not bring religion or mysticism into my personal philosophy... but what you are describing is consistent with my own... eg. paying things forward, random acts of kindness, etc. I also take some things from the classical Stoics... eg. responsibility, accountability, patience, temperance...

Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

Another way to put it, "There are things in life I can change... and others I cannot. Give me the wisdom to know the difference."

Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

For example... a powerful world or corporate leader... agree... "some of us"... the tiniest fraction of the population. Many people are good at following directions and meeting expectations. That has been my life, as well.

Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

Interesting perspective... having alexithymia myself. Confounding things, growing up in an era where... especially for males... emotional expression (crying and other emotional outbursts) was considered a character weakness... to be shunned and shamed. Being the Stoic male was the model...

I heard it best not confront...

Reminds me of an old stand-up comedy routine by comedian Ron White... "I got thrown out of a bar" "I'm a big guy... but I got thrown out of a bar like I was a Frisbee". "Then they squared up with me outside the bar." "I don't know how many of them I could take... but I knew how many they were...

Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

Most people don't... because of their egos. People often find themselves "living in the now"... trying to satisfy their immediate needs... very centrally focused. ;) :). Another topic, but those who have had profound spiritual experiences... who have experienced "ego loss"... will see...

Ways in which we can keep our ego "in check"

Background: I've been a member on the Autism Forums for years now, reading and contributing. I've only recently realized that our ego plays a lot more than I thought in our human experience. When someone says that someone is "egotistical", at least in my interpretation and cognitive bias, I...

Who else have this odd trait? Out-of-sight, out-of-mind.

I am trying really hard to be nice here. You're having a moment. I'm going to let this go. You're making something out of something that really isn't there. You're misinterpreting and grossly mischaracterizing my intent. My brain cannot deal with this level of "sensitivity"... it's so far...

Son gets bullied by two classmates

Kids that age can really suck... as adults, looking back, we all know this. Now, even if your son stops hanging around these kids... he might not... you don't have that much control in that situation. Even if these other kids totally stop their bullying... highly unlikely... you can't stop...
