What is the best new video game system for a 7 year old child in your opinion?
Thank you!

Normally I'd say Xbox, but that might be a bit technical for a 7 year old, so try a Nintendo Switch, if he likes Pokemon, try a handheld such as a 3DS, they're not as expensive for the hardware or the games themselves, biggest expense would be batteries if he uses it a lot.

I never know what the best is, without knowing what the best is for. Yes for a 7 year old, but what are your childs and your true goals for that?

A raspberry pi?
Some games, some emulators
Education potential for electronics and software (well for you rather)
Simple graphic programming environments made for kids
Dirt cheap

In hindsight i think it would be best if i got some laptop as old as me when i was 7.

Just my opinion, don't let a 7 year old game on his own.

No such thing as "best"

And yes, a Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo Switch would be good, lots of Kid Friendly games on both systems.

Minecraft's available on both systems, Pokemon (though the Nintendo Switch Pokemon games releasing later in the next couple months will be a companion game to the Pokemon GO mobile game), Crash Bandicoot (on Switch), Luigis' Mansion, pretty much all the Mario games, Captain Toad, and Donkey Kong Country, to name some

I've had my Original 3DS since 2013 and the battery has yet to be replaced, I think the little dude would be fine :P

What are some of their favorite games? That's the big question. The selection between consoles can be pretty different, the Nintendo though is geared more towards the younger set.

The Switch is a lot of fun and versatile it works as both a handheld system and can be docked to the tv. The selection of games is pretty good also. I'm 51 and I love it. That said it's a little like a tablet screen-wise so you may want to invest in a poly carbonate case or go with something else if they're tough on stuff or their frustration level is low.

We have both the Switch and the 3ds, and a ton of other consoles here and a gaming rig. The Switch and the Xbox One see the most play time out of the lot.

I would say the New Nintendo 2DS XL. It's basically just just the 3DS XL, but with the 3D gimmick removed. It's about $100 cheaper than other 3DS systems, so it should be fine. If your kid wants to play something like Minecraft, Fortnite, PuBG, or any other PC games, you can build a decent gaming PC with just $500 for hardware+$100 for Windows 10. All you need then is a good monitor, a good keyboard and mouse, an office chair, and a desk.

I recommend the Super Megason IV. Hours of fun. Comes with an extra cartridge too.
