Well, I am honestly bored and can count my friends on one hand, so I was wondering if anyone just wants to chat as I wouldn't mind another friend with AS

Hi Retarded_Llama!
What are some of your interests?
I guess if you tell a bit more, it could be easier to find people who share your interests, so you can talk about those topics with someone.
Furthermore you could try and visit the AspiesCentral Chat Room to find people to chat with.

What now?

Hi. You mentioned Theoretical Physics in your list. I would like to get your opinion String Theory. This not something that I need to know, just something that I want to know. With this in mind, I have been reading a lot about it. I am having trouble understanding something that I can not see or experiment with. Apparently the only way to prove it (or disprove it) is with very complicated mathematics. Some of the things that it predicts seem more like science fiction than science. Trying to understand things like 11 dimensions or parallel universes is not easy for me. So what do you think? Is String Theory the unification theory that combines the physics of Quantum Mechanics with the physics of General Relativity, making it the theory of everything? Or is it science fiction?

If string theory could be easily proven or disproven, someone would have already done it. However, you could have written the same thing about Einsteins theory of special relativity a century ago, and because of how flawlessly it describes the universe it is now considered to be fact. I remember reading that when String Theory was first theorised there would have had to be around 70 dimensions. However with the application of modern mathematics, they brought that down to 26, and then there's super string theory that only contains 10 dimensions. Future progress may change the theory, prove it or disprove it entirely, but I'm not going to completely believe in something unless it can be fully proven. If you're having trouble understanding all of the dimensions, try this video:

Did that help?

Thank you for the video. That does make it a little easier to understand. I think that one of my problems with this is that I have lived a lifetime with physics that effect us every day. Over time you begin to think of physics as being a absolute constant, that never changes, like mathematics. It is hard to comprehend a realm that is as small as the one being described in Quantum Mechanics, a realm as large as the one being described by General Relativity and that the physics there are not only different from each other, but different from the physics we live with every day. This is particularly true since we do not usually consider the 4 basic laws of physics in our understanding of everyday physics. It seems to me that studying things like this are easier for a young person like you, whose understandings are not skewed by a long lifetime of experiences. I study these kind of things just because I want to know, for you it could be very beneficial in the future. Keep it up.

I personally find the idea of a changing physics comforting, because even though it is hard to comprehend, it could help us answer the question, 'why is there anything' which is in most cases just as hard a question to answer as 'is there a god'.

I appreciate the compliment and I hope you still try to learn and enjoy physics.
