Hi friends, I'm Sci~

Heya all - I go by Sci in some circles.
As of sometime earlier this year: I officially got my diagnosis, bringing to an end a 28 year old question: "why am I so different" and it's been.. harrowing.
I've always been the sort so self isolate as a result, something I'm coming to realize was a defense mechanism. Since that diagnosis I've been trying to both understand my own head better, and try to integrate better socially; socializing having always been a major struggle of mine.

So, in that vein of trying to socialize more, I got recommended to here as part of my diagnosis and figured I'd dip my toes in, feel my way around and hopefully try to make some new friends along the way : )

A tad more about me:
- I work in tech support
- I play a lot of games (Stellaris, WoW (formerly, anyway), Rimworld, Deep Rock Galactic, Factorio for a few recent examples)
- I love Sci-fi (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, The Expanse) and spaceship design in particular
- I've apparently got a preternatural talent for communicating with, and befriending dogs. Let me pet yours please
- I live in the southwestern Virginia area
- I have a pretty major audio sensitivity
- I *adore* winter (which isnt helped by my location. We get very little snow here and it makes me quite sad)

I try to be as open and friendly as possible so if you're likeminded/have similar interests and/or just wanna chat; don't hesitate to reach out! I promise I dont bite!

Welcome! :)

I also communicate better with dogs than I do with humans lol (it’s my job) and I befriend every dog I meet!

Hope you enjoy your time here, find lots of support, and learn some new things :)

Welcome @Sci
I was 56 before a diagnosis and I found this forum shortly after.
Been hanging out ever since.
Hope you enjoy it here too.

Hello and welcome, @Sci. I hope you find a happy home here among us and that you enjoy your time on the forum. Let us know if you need any help figuring things out as you get settled in.

Aha, the ASD game. Hint to anyone on the spectrum with a bit of a thing for trains, machines, systems, mechanisms, etc: this is more addictive than crack.

Help me out Sci, did you play Space Exploration? And if so, did you finish the gateway ending?

Howdy Sci!

Uhm... Did you mention that you like science fiction? Oh my. Welcome, welcome welcome :) !

Welcome, @Sci

We all at some point have asked why we are so different, strange, odd, etc. Glad you have found out, and joined us here~
