If you are registered as self employed please share your experience :) What you do? How did you register? Do you do your own taxes? No personal info, just general ideas sharing, stuff like that :)

My Aspie husband is & since now I'm working with him, I guess that makes me so too.

I have been self employed. Owned a consignment shop. And then was a self employed massage therapist. I did my taxes as far as the sales tax you pay to the government threw the year, but didn't do my year end taxes. As far as registering there was just an office I went into that gives you a tax id number for the sales.

@ soup what kind of business you guys are in? Do you have a website?

@ Undiagnosed
I'm trying to set up a couple of websites and want to get registered. I guess there're some slight registration and taxation differences between states. I know that if I'll get into it, I'll have to commit and be serious about what I do, and the products I make. But so far my record's showing that I'm not very good at committing to things and keeping promises (besides maybe the marriage and kids related).
The good thing is, I don't break promises intentionally but still. At this point I'm trying to simplify my projects as much as I can and get as much meaningful support as I can.
I keep saying, I want to prove that I can achieve what many people believe is almost impossible with my kind of brain but sometimes I'm wondering if I should settle for something easier instead ... Eh, bull... I know I can't settle :D never could...
Anyway, my main focus on selling products online, from simple art works to educational ones, clothing, accessories, activity books for children with Autism (or anyone who wants to use them), regular illustrated books, tarot cards. I can do much more different stuff so at this moment I want to focus on one thing at a time. But when I think about everything I want to do, it seems insane for one person to be able to accomplish all that, so again I would have to simplify as much as I can. ...

So you make all those things? I make stuff and sell them on ebay.

Do you mind posting a link? I'm curious what you do :) a friend of mine used to sell stuff on eBay, don't think she does it any more, not enough time. I've been looking for a community type online shop with good customer service and save for sellers. I found 2 but later after some research found some suspicious reviews about the way sellers were treated so at this moment I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I might still stick with one of the stores, the only thing I don't like is that nowadays online stores are required to have sellers SSN or ITIN. I don't like providing such a personal informational online... So we'll see.

I am not self-employed, as I am a student currently. However, after my finals are over, I may consider writing business plans, or review them - I have lots to learn about business know-how in Britain and United States, though, but I will do my best. :)

I don't have very much on right now. I went throw a spell where I had to slack off a lot and take care of something else. I am getting some purses that I make out of recycled jeans ready right now. I have some other shorts ready but not in any hurry to get them listed untill colser to spring. This is one I do have listed right now.

Cut Off Festival Levi Jean Shorts 3 4 5 6 Size 27"w USA Flag Skull Studs | eBay

So this stuff you have to sell is what you are makeing? Ebay dose have stores.

Really cool stuff, Undiagnozed. I like the purple shorts and the bag, if I was 15 not 34 I would wear them :D I know some people would wear them even at my age but I've become a little more mom-conservative :) well, just kidding, but still. You're, indeed, very talented. Oh wait, now I see, the purple is also a bag, I was so distracted by design I didn't see the name :D but they would be awesome as shorts as well :)

I'm looking for store that print and ship themselves, I just want to design. But if I can's find appropriate stores, I would have to print locally and ship by myself. I'm also thinking about doing hand-made things but it depends on how much time I have and what is worth to focus on.

I print my shipping labels at home epath. I actualy never thought about a store that dose everything and all you have to do is supply the stuff. That sounds good. Please let me know if you find out anything good.

I don't wear these either. I am 44. I just have fun makeing them for other people to wear. I do use purses like them though.

Some I sold last year.

My mother in law had her own business, which my husband and I basically ran for her as she was too busy with her regular job (I handled the website and buying, my husband handled the shipping and some of the work with production companies and toy suppliers), she did her own taxes but I think she did get help with them.

Epath have you looked for dropshippers (that's what you want to look for; a company that will ship direct to your customers), as for sites to sell on you have etsy or you could go for a bigcartel site or for getting things printed (but not dropshipped) somewhere like cafepress.

I only have some random art works. And sketches :D and 2 half finished websites hanging on my computer. As for hand-made stuff I've been sewing and hand-painting some clothing (or however you call it :) ), now I don't really have time for it but I can start doing it again if necessary. I might be able to scramble a few pictures, I have to see. And I need to publish my website then you guys can see what I'm trying to do :D

@Kelly
Dropshippers - you mean like FedEx or UPS? I've been thinking about etsy, I remember reading about it in Entrepreneur some time ago, but it seems times have changed and nowadays the site have pretty bad reviews but then again, for some people it still works out. Cafepress seems to have bad reviews about quality of their products.
Sometime ago I found zazzle and redbubble, which are not as well known probably. I've heard lots of people said zazzle has better product quality. But they are just like amazon require your SSN or ITIN, which I feel nervous about. I mean everybody knows amazon, it's an established company but even in their case I would be nervous to provide such a sensitive information. Red bubble attracted me because it seemed like a nice community of artists but according to the reviews some sellers weren't treated fairly and that the whole site started deteriorating, so I was not sure if I wanted join a crew of a sinking ship. I'm still leaning towards zazzle but I do understand that selling products online is only a part of it, I'm not going to get far just by placing a few things and waiting... I am so lost :D I went to a consultant last year, I think, he told me - write business plan and marketing plan then we talk :)

I am. I write novels, and I don't make much money. I sell art, and likewise, I don't make much money, but I love what I do.
I just wish others did as well.

Being an entrepreneur, which is kind of what this is, is extremely hard to break into. But I'm not going to stop trying even if I never make it big.
