People in our times are not used to thinking about food beyond what to have for the next meal. A smaller number of people are providing more food for a larger number of people who eat it than ever before.
This situation is aready changing. Our future food supply is already in jeopardy due to climate change and its consequences. Anyone who wishes to continue to eat for the rest of their life should be very concerned about this matter.
If you are one of the people who already knows this, you are way ahead of the people who do not know, or who try to hide from this reality. You do not need to be discouraged at the enormity of the task facing anyone who wants to do something to prevent enormous numbers of starvation deaths. There are things even the least powerful among us can do to improve our current and future food situation due to climate change.
One of the things you can do to help stop making climate change worse, is to work on what you can do to use less energy. The easiest way to use less energy, if you can afford it, is to switch your light bulbs to LED light bulbs. They can save 80% or more over a regular bulb. They don't save as much over a compact fluorescent bulb, but it still saves quite a bit. Another advantage over CFLs is that LEDs do not contain mercury, so if you happen to break one it won't make you sick and require you to evacuate the premises.
Not only will you save your own posterior portion by using LED light bulbs, but you will save money over the long run because your electric bills will go down. Even though it costs more to buy an LED bulb, the savings in electricity will make up for it many times over. You will save yourself from climbing to replace bulbs in fixtures located in high places as often. LED bulbs last years longer than either CFLs or incandescent bulbs.
Another simple thing that you can do to both save money and stop making climate change worse, is to close doors and windows when there is a difference between outside temperature and inside temperature and it costs money to keep it that way.
In other words, if it is very cold outside and your home is nice and warm, then shut the door as soon as you can to keep the cold air out and the warm air inside your cozy home. The same goes for the windows.
It is much the same if it is hot outside where you live and your home is nice and cool inside. Close the doors and windows to keep the cool air inside and the hot air outside. This will be easier on your stomach in the future and on your pocketbook now.
It is likely that your utility company will have information about how to conserve power, or links to such information on their site. If they do not, you will find them on sites for power companies' sites for big cities. If you pick a power company that shares the same climate and geography as yours, it might be more useful to you.
I did not realize that I was going to write so much before I got to the banana trees. I will have to do another post about them since this one is already so long. I may also write about ideas for being comfortable in different weather conditions and still saving energy.
The reason I mentioned, "Bloom where you are planted," is that what we do to save energy and live well depends on the climate conditions where you live. When we are happy, it is as if we are blooming like flowers.
