A few days ago had a pain in the foot. Waking up one morning the pain was so bad I took a pain killer which didn't work. Then I took 4 advils which worked somewhat. I'm surprised as I haven't had an attack of Gout in years.

By the 2nd day of taking 4 advil a few times a day, using ice & not walking, the swelling went down some. Now my big toe knuckle is red but I can hobble a block or two. When I can I'll catch up to some emails and threads. Thanks!

Sparticus...consider buying black cherry juice from a grocery store if you can find it. Only thing I know to speed up the recovery process. Took me years to learn what foods to avoid....even then my body gives me periodic "warnings" to cool it on some things. Usually peanuts.

Thanks Judge! Will do when I find it to keep some for an emergency. What kinds of warning signs do you get? Peanuts? Wow I didn't know that. I thought it was from seafood & some kind of acid.

The most common symptoms for me are pain usually in either my big toe joint or my ankles. At the earliest point there's no redness or swelling- just minor discomfort. But then it's logical deduction for me, as I don't otherwise have problems with my feet or joints.

I consumed sunflower seeds and peanuts for years, not knowing they were yet another culprit of gout like the usual suspects such as red meat and shellfish. I eat very little red meat and virtually no poultry as I also have severe reflux. My system just can't handle animal fat so I eat only hamburger- maybe 3/4 a pound a month.

But I do love my peanuts. Gave up sunflower seeds years ago from breaking the ends of molars. Only last month I ate a 16 oz bag of peanuts over three days and got my warning signs to back off.

Somewhat like AS there's a lot to gout given one's personal metabolism. No telling what foods can trigger it. But I did learn to flood myself with organic black cherry juice that breaks down purines and uric acid deposits. It works for me...takes a few days but then a few days recovery is better than a few weeks.
