The Dark Side of the Rainbow
When I was much younger, family life was much different than today. Meal time was reserved for eating and the TV was not allowed to be on during it. There wasn't much to watch of broadcast TV and the area we lived in although being just 25 miles outside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania USA we had a whopping three stations that had good enough reception to watch and two more that came in as "snow". One Saturday morning,or Cartoon day as we called it,our crappy old set decided that the day was the time to stop working. When the set would shut down,it required opening the set to remove the tubes inside it and trip to a store where they had vacuum tube testers to sort through and find the faulty one. My Father had enough hours invested in the old set to consider the battle lost and went to the TV repair shop across the road from our house and bought us a new one. He saved Cartoon Day! It was a 19 inch black and white Zenith all shiny and new and had it's own rabbit ears antenna built in!
As crazy as I am,I managed to find this picture of that TV online

As the trip down memory lane continued, it called to mind another family tradition of watching the 1939 classic film "The Wizard of OZ" on our silly black and white TV. We knew it was partially filmed on color and could swear we could tell when the movie changed to color even though we had never seen it on a colored set. Getting to see Oz was a special time in our home and my dear sweet departed mother broke two house rules at the same time every year. TV dinners were new at the time and we each got one to fill our little bellies.

Back to the house rules again...TV dinners were expensive and not often served at home, nothing was to be eaten outside of the dining area and no TV when eating. On the Wiz night, all three rules got broken much to the delight of the kids and the master plan all came together on cheapo card tables sitting on towels to prevent messing up the Sears furniture.

I still watch the Wizard of Oz from time to time and still enjoy the movie.
Later in life, I discovered the band Pink Floyd and enjoyed their music a lot.
being of not so sound mind at times, I was delighted when I discovered the synchronicity of The Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album played with the TV sound turned down if you cued the music to the third roar of the MGM lion. It was a lot of messin' around just for a few laughs and to see how well the two worked together, but worth it in the end. Then I discovered it was already done as a Youtube vid and I could have a TV dinner any time and anywhere I wanted to...kinda cool being all grown up.
