My Aspirations For The Global Autism Community

I have a vision for the autism community around the world. I hope that eventually, all around the world, people with autism can be empowered and enabled to contribute to the world, through their unique gifts and talents that they share with the rest of the world, regardless of autism functioning levels, existence of other co-morbid disorders, race, religion or sexual orientation.

The stirring slogan for Occupy Wall Street is 'we are the 99%'. Well, the NTs are 87 out of the 88 people, don't they? Our society is a mostly NT-based society. The fact is, those with Autism and Asperger's will remain a minority. This is why we only ask for acceptance to live within the NT society, as other fellow NTs, while recognising both the limitations and talents that our conditions bring us - regardless of what we seem to be.

Autism is a wide spectrum. We understand that society may be preoccupied by other concerns. I thought of it this way - regardless of functioning levels, those with autism bring out the essence of life, which is - love. Love which leads us to passionately pursue in some interests. Love to feel and care for others, like other human beings do, despite our social deficits that inhibit our functioning.

With globalisation, there is so much potential for information to be spread and transmitted all around the world. There is an increased likelihood that there will be a common refrain of, 'we want acceptance' by all Aspies and Auties. We may be divided by different mental models because of our circumstances. But surely, psychiatrists and other medical professionals must found a commonality in all people with autism spectrum disorders, that really warrants more support for our community.

Perhaps Aspies Central has started the process of integrating Aspies around the world under one supportive forum. Maybe, one day, through coming to Aspies Central, any Aspie or Autie around the world may never feel alone, may feel more accepted as what he is, and finds the strength to live in the NT-dominant society that does we do not seem to fit in - well, at least for now.

You know Geordie I am always very very impressed by your ability to put together words. I agree with you. I think that with more technology in helping those of us with AS and Autism is allowing us a bigger voice than we have ever had. I believe that we will have a bigger voice in the future and an expression of the voice that has largely gone silent due to lots of factors mainly the fact that we often have to rely on our NT loved ones and friends to speak for us in some situations. I agree that maybe AC is the beginning of a bigger society of

Now, we only need the NTs to sell, and give us access, to the relevant technologies that enable us to communicate. :D

Perhaps AC will be a better, bigger and more supportive society, for all of us :)

Heh. Maybe so. It would be nice if computer companies would donate more materials to fund Autism groups. Kinda like they do for people with other disabilities. But you are on the right track that maybe we will have a good supportive community for us all regardless of where one's footsteps lead.

In my country, Microsoft and Apple did donate their latest equipment to Pathlight School (a special school for students with autism). I hope this happens everywhere around the world - IT companies helping the less fortunate, who would benefit with technologies.

Hopefully, the world will be one big supportive community for all, because we are all human beings :) One world, one love. Yeah! :D

yes that do that in my country too, but not as often as I would like but then again they would have to make money for themselves too. I agree. One world. One Love. is a big dream. I wish it to come true some day. :)

Maybe the dream will come true, as Aspies Central and, I think, Spectrumville, both work towards One World, One Love, One Vision and One Dream for all in our all-inclusive, supportive world :)

That would be nice. I think its on the right track. I think if people could just truly get along and recognize people's differences and hope for the future and be supportive to everyone. I think its a great start I just hope it grows. :)
