This blog will probably be short but I had been wanting to do a list of songs I’ve heard live at the Psychedelic Furs concerts that I went to. And also a list of songs that I want to hear live.
I feel so lucky that I saw The Psychedelic Furs three times. I can’t believe it, and I feel it is one of my greatest achievements. You need to see them live. The Furs are just one of those bands you have to see again and again and again. They put out amazing shows and are just brilliant, especially vocalist Richard Butler. I saw them three times in Portland, Oregon. First show was at the Crystal Ballroom on September 2, 2015, and two times at the Revolution Hall on July 26, 2016 and July 22, 2017. When I met guitarist Rich Good the second time after the third concert, he said that they will likely be back in Portland next year. Fourth concert, here I come!
I also feel lucky too at the second concert while me and my brother were sitting outside of the auditorium inside of the Revolution Hall, we heard The Furs sound checking! I was in awe while hearing Richard sing, and he sang so wonderful. The awesome part was after when they ended a song, I actually heard Richard talking! His voice was kind of low but I definitely recognized his voice!
Here are the songs I heard live and the many times I’ve heard them.
1. “Mr. Jones” (from Talk Talk Talk (1981)): 4x* (*including soundcheck).
2. “Love My Way” (from Forever Now (1982)): 4x* (*including soundcheck).
3. “The Ghost In You” (from Mirror Moves (1984)): 4x* (*including soundcheck). [During this song at the second concert Richard Butler shook my hand the third time, but he held it and was singing to me.]
4. “Heaven” (from Mirror Moves (1984)): 3x.
5. “Heartbreak Beat” (from Midnight To Midnight (1987)): 3x. [During this song at the second concert Richard Butler shook my hand the fourth time.]
6. “Pretty In Pink” (from Talk Talk Talk (1981)): 3x.
7. “Angels Don’t Cry” (from Midnight To Midnight (1987)): 3x* (*including soundcheck).
8. “Heartbeat” (from Mirror Moves (1984)): 2x.
9. “Until She Comes” (from World Outside (1991)): 2x.
10. “Highwire Days” (from Mirror Moves (1984)): 2x.
11. “Danger” (from Forever Now (1982)): 2x.
12. “India” (from The Psychedelic Furs (1980)): 2x.
13. “President Gas” (from Forever Now (1982)): 2x.
14. “Like A Stranger” (from Mirror Moves (1984)): 2x.* (*including soundcheck.) [During this song at the second concert Richard Butler shook my hand the second time.]
15. “Little Miss World” (a new song The Psychedelic Furs wrote but not recorded yet; first debuted live in 2012)): 2x.
16. “House” (from Book Of Days (1989)): 2x.
17. “There’s A World” (from World Outside (1991)): 1x.
18. “Susan’s Strange” (b-side of “Mr. Jones” and a bonus track on the 2002 remaster of The Psychedelic Furs (1980)): 1x. [When I heard “Susan’s Strange” live at the first concert it was unfamiliar to me until I’ve got the 2002 remaster of the debut album in January 2016. One time I looked at the setlist for the first concert and I found out that they played “Susan’s Strange.” After finally hearing that song I really would love to hear it live again.]
19. “Only You And I” (from Forever Now (1982)): 1x.
20. “Wrong Train” (a song The Psychedelic Furs wrote I think in the early ‘00s but not recorded yet): 1x.
21. “Sister Europe” (from The Psychedelic Furs (1980)): 1x.
22. “Sleep Comes Down” (from Forever Now (1982)): 1x.
23. “Fall” (from The Psychedelic Furs (1980)): 1x. [During this song at the second concert Richard Butler shook my hand the first time.]
24. “All Of The Law” (from Midnight To Midnight (1987)): 1x.
25. “Into You Like A Train” (from Talk Talk Talk (1981)): 1x.
26. “Dumb Waiters” (from Talk Talk Talk (1981)): 1x.
27. “So Run Down” (from Talk Talk Talk (1981)): 1x.
28. “No Tears” (from Talk Talk Talk (1981)): 1x.
29. “Alice’s House” (from Mirror Moves (1984)): 1x.
30. “All That Money Wants” (from the compilation album All Of This And Nothing (1988)): 1x.
Now here are the songs I really want to hear live.
1. “We Love You” (from The Psychedelic Furs (1980). First released as their debut single in 1979).
2. “Run And Run” (from Forever Now (1982)). [This is my favorite song from The Furs and I really really need to hear it!! In October 2014 they performed in Portland at the Aladdin Theater and they sang this song. But that was a month before I became a Furs fan, and right now on The Singles Tour that they’re currently doing, “Run And Run” is on the setlist. If I see them next year I hope they will include the song again.]
3. “I Don’t Want To Be Your Shadow” (b-side of “Danger” (UK) and “Love My Way” (US) and is included on the 2002 remaster of Forever Now (1982). [This is my third favorite song from The Furs. It’s such a wonderful gem.]
4. “Here Come Cowboys” (from Mirror Moves (1984)).
5. “Shock” (from Midnight To Midnight (1987)).
6. “Midnight To Midnight” (from Midnight To Midnight (1987)).
7. “Shine” (from Book Of Days (1989)). [My second favorite song from The Furs.]
8. “Should God Forget” (from Book Of Days (1989)).
9. “In My Head” (from World Outside (1991)).
10. “Sometimes” (from World Outside (1991)).
Hope you all enjoyed the list, thank you!
