haiku x1

I bought a book of haiku in the first book store that
I was ever in (not counting the school book store,
which definitely didn't count.)

This is the one I remember.
I still have the book, but without looking the one I
remember is:

old pond
frog jump in
water sound

Yeah.
I know.
Not the right number of syllables.
That's because it was a paraphrase translation.

There is probably a "correct" version.

Here are some other translations.
The Old Pond Poem by Matsuo Basho - Poem Hunter

Fortunately we didn't have to write haiku at school.
Or that other stuff that children have to write, cinquain.

I think having to do either of those for lessons, at a young age,
would have killed off any interest I could have had for the practice.

"haiku x1" could be the name of an under-powered
Japanese motorcycle.
