My seven-year-old son laughs every time he learns, or understands, something new. He recently asked me, how people with disabilities manage to do stuff. I explained that everyday tasks are harder to accomplish, but that they learn to do things in a different way. Then, I showed him a video of the London Paralympics of 2012.
I knew he was amazed by it, because he started laughing; but after a while, I had to explain to him that we should not laugh at people with disabilities, because they might think we’re making fun of them. ‘I know mom, I know’, he said. My remark was just a social tip for future situations, because I know that he was just happy to learn the answer to his question.
I can relate to him. I also get pleasure in knowing, just for the sake of knowing. I also laugh mentally, every time I learn something new, or get an understanding that I didn’t previously have. When I need new data to pour into my system, I read a book or plug myself to Ted.com, so I can I get my much needed dose of info for my mental well-being. It’s just a very satisfactory way of taking care of myself.
Today I’m watching this.
