Not that he was truly elected - apparently come this morning, Clinton won the popular vote but the electoral college had already called the vote hours prior b/c Trump got the minimum number of delegates votes. And we all know the electoral college elects the president not us. This isn't the first time this has happened, it happened with the George W. Bush/Gore election.
But personally, although I didn't decide I should vote in time to actually register to vote, I supported Trump. Hillary I could tell the whole time was only pandering to voters to get their votes - historically, from what ive read she is actually opposed to gay rights. And besides, we don't need to let unvetted muslims from countries known to produce extremists into our country. We have enough poor Hispanics working minimum wage jobs living off government benefits here as it is! I would know. I'm in school and I work at Walmart to pay the bills while living at home, and a significant portion of employees at my store are immigrants. A few of the older - borderline elderly, really - employees are actually veterans. Anyways, my point is that I think Trump is the lesser of two evils. I don't believe his rhetoric that he's actually for LGBT rights but there's no guarantee he'll even try to 'drain the swamp'. Just cause he's a businessman not a politician does not mean he isn't a potential liar. Or that he'll have the support to get anything done. And with all the federal overreach and big government and such - just look at Obamacare - I think a vote for Trump can be a good thing. I hated Obama and still do but I respect the one good thing he did - marriage equality. And if Trump can repeal that, well, the next president can reinstate it in eight years! Trump doesn't mean the world's gonna end. And there is no guarantee that with all that's going on in the world he or his VP will even successfully repeal marriage equality. They have Obamacare and the border and ISIS and Hillary to deal with. And if he does repeal marriage equality and/or pass a law allowing businesses to discriminate, fine. And i'm pretty sure i'm bi! I don't give a damn, honestly. I could still date a girl if I wanted to, or be roomies. Growing up there was a gay couple that lived on our street. They were the nicest people ever. They'd bring food if somebody was in the hospital. Yes it would be a bad thing but that doesn't mean that its the end of the world. You can't get out there and vote and change that next election. Trump is for things that I support - smaller government, states rights, border security, ban Obamacare.
I grew up in a Christian household even though I myself am not religious. I think that if a business wants to declare itself a Christian business and refuse service to a group of people that is fine - but there should be registration and paperwork and laws involved. A hospital or public school should not have that right, of course, or other such businesses, but a family owned business for example should have that right. But a chain store like McDonalds or Walmart or whatnot...idk. An individual employee should not be allowed to speak for the entire store and deny someone who is muslim or LGBT service, but at the same time their religious rights should be respected as well. A compromise of some sort is needed, in my opinion, that respects the rights of all parties involved. Not just a 'give them rights and if you don't like it your opinion does not matter' sort of deal. As a Walmart cashier I've seen a variety of people in my community, a variety of ethnicities and lifestyles. I have coworkers that i'm fairly certain fall under the LGBT category, and others that are immigrants. Some of the nicest regular customers I see are foreign - i'm too socially awkward to ask where they're from, but you can always tell. I checked out a muslim woman wearing a hijab and she was pleasant. I've noticed a few muslim families appear to have moved to the area but I've never noticed anything wrong with them. Their children are well behaved and I've never seen them make a fuss or be unusually rude or anything. I have no problems with them, and if I did it would be for the above reasons - rudeness, poorly behaved children, etc. Just like I take issues with mothers who refuse to strap their babies into the cart for their own safety - its for their decisions not the person themselves.
I just hate what America's fallen into. Insults and name calling and fear gone out of control. Trump said he wanted to vet the immigrants and build a wall to keep out illegal immigrants. We NEED immigration reform when we have illegal and legal immigrants who get more help than our veterans do!! In my opinion you should only get what you earn. Our country can only support so many people, and we need to recognize that as a people. Immigration reform is not a bad thing and I believe if its done right that it can be a good thing.
