Of Course We Can Change the World, So Let's Do It

Many Autistics are "people who need people, in particular, other Autistic people " Others prefer isolation, including from others who are Autistic. This is for those who believe that Autistics CAN work together, NEED to work together, to have the most awesome life possible, not for those who consider it an impossibility and only want to argue the case for impossibility.

I am going to be writing a series detailing some of the projects we are involved with. We are hoping to get others involved in projects that will help to positively effect the lives of our Autistic brothers and sisters.

Most recently, in February,we hosted a mini retreat in Colorado. Many people had expressed an interest in Autreat, but, because of the price could not afford it. So, initially our 3 night retreat, AutHaven was priced at $150 a person. With donations, we were able to lower the price to $100, and still half who attended were on partial and full scholarships. We are planning the next one for the third week in March 2015. It will be one day longer. The initial cost per person will be $200 per person, but I expect we will be able to drop the fee substantially and provie more scholarships as well.

During AutHaven, we had the blessing of meeting Star Ford [author of "A Field Guide to Earthlings"} and she did a presentation on "Ocate Cliffs" in NM. Ocate Cliffs is a retreat center being built by Autistic volunteers and will be eventually run SOLELY by Autistics. We have been to the property and my son has helped with some of the initial work. This place is beautiful [ PURPLE pinecones, people Not purplish, but an incredibly, autisticky purple] There is much work before this place opens and they need tons of help.

We are working on putting together an Autistic community within an already existing community in Pueblo Colorado [initially we were looking at Thornton, CO, but the reasons for the change will be in another blog.

Still in discussion stage [ At AutHaven we will be planning all sorts of things] but we are thinking of an Autistic publishing company, Entrepeneur support, inclussion projects, NT education presented in a FUN way that NTs' can accept, and many, many other activities. I shall be blogging on some of them and I so hope some of you will follow, because we CAN change the world for each other.
