2012 is a forgettable year for me, save for the Tigers.
The Tigers did well this year. Expectations were high this year for them to get to the World Series, and win it. The Tigers initially struggled, but later recovered to win their division and the American League. Even though they lost to the Giants in a sweep, I still think the Tigers did pretty well.
Lions though are a different story altogether. They are 4-8, lost the Thanksgiving game to the Texans, and now Suh 'ailed the team', as what I seemed to read from the Free Press.
The Wings aren't playing due to the lockout, while the +Detroit Pistons are 6-14, 2nd last in Central Division.
For college football, for their credit, Wolverines football won Sugar Bowl earlier this year, the Spartans had an even better season with a 11-3 record (though losing to Badgers in the Championship Game). However, that was last season. This season, the Spartans barely scrapped through bowl eligibility, and the Wolverines had a 8-4 record. Oh, and losing to Alabama, Notre Dame and Nebraska means that the team is simply not good enough.
Perhaps adding insult to injury, the Ohio State Buckeyes managed to go through the season undefeated, though they will not play a bowl at the end of this season with probation.
College basketball was much better in my opinion. Last season (earlier this year), the Wolverines are 2nd in Big Ten, while both the Detroit Titans and Spartans won their leagues' tournaments. The Titans and Wolverines crashed out in their first games, but the Spartans lost to Rick Pitno's Louisville Cardinals in Sweet Sixteen. The Cardinals eventually got into Final Four, and the Cardinals had a great season, so I think the Spartans had put up a great fight. I am really happy for the Spartans, they are essentially the college basketball team for Michigan, for now.
This year, I am not sure what will happen. The Wolverines are still undefeated, The Spartans started slow, but may do alright. The Titans, though, I do not expect them to win Horizon League any time soon.
Overall, I think this sports season for the major Michigan sports teams is a good one, at least, when the Tigers are doing well, as well as Wolverines' Sugar Bowl win earlier this year. I can only hope next year, 2013, will bring more pleasant surprises for the sports fan in Michigan.
