Why do they always talk about the weather?

Everyone is talking about the weather here. There's a category 5 hurricane in the Caribbean which likely will enter the Gulf of Mexico, gain strength, and slam into either Vera Cruz, Mexico or one of the American states along the coast.

Yeah, I heard. I have a friend in Grenada who was pretty lucky to avoid the worst of it. How did things pan out over there?

Nothing happened where I live (Mississippi) other than a lot of hot, moist air was dragged from the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in daily thunderstorms here. Texas had some flooding and wind damage and has ongoing power outages, but the storm was only a category 1 when it made landfall there.

I have some friends in the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico) who had a lot of wind damage but they're okay.

Cool, these are scary things, fortunately for me the UK just gets wetter (for now), not quite hurricane weather!
Though we also have little clue about what real weather means, so have our own shock coming when it reaches us. 🌩🌨🌪

I live in the land of violent weather. Hurricanes, tornadoes, tropical storms, etc. Truthfully, I always get a little high when I know really dangerous weather is coming. We "batten down the hatches", put up or tie down everything that can be blown away like lawn furniture. There's an anticipatory excitement associated with it, weird as that sounds.

The one kind of weather that I dread is ice storms, but they are rare here. We can't drive on ice or snow, no one has snow tires or chains, the state does not invest in snow removal equipment, and everyone is stuck where they are until it melts. Back when my husband worked, the Highway Patrol (police) would come pick him up at our house to drive him to the hospital as he was essential personnel there. He usually ended up sleeping there after his shift because the roads were impassable. The power lines, telephone lines and trees get coated with ice and break from the weight. It takes a long time for the utility companies to repair everything.

I get what you mean, the changes in air pressure, and sometimes the electricity, and the dull silence you sometimes get.
I've experienced some hairy-ish storms in Europe, though nothing like a hurricane or tornado, but good enough to get the feel of the atmosphere as it develops!

Not sure I've experienced one of those, but I did have an impressive hail storm once where they were like golf balls. Real nasty to be caught out in, all the cars and houses around were smashing in afterwards. Broken windows and even roofs all over. Car roofs and bonnets all dimpled like someone had gone crazy with a hammer.
