Clothes: What you can/can't stand

Effy

self-advocating autistic
I'm really curious if someone else shares the quirks, and overall interested in others' clothing quirks.
  • I hate tags. I hate them. I can't to them, and if I do, they MUST not be so gfhdjhgjkf bothersome.
  • I need to layer. I have to wear a camisole (or two) before I'm satisfied, as otherwise, I'm going to be upset ALL day long over how naked I feel.
  • I don't know the fabric, but there is one that I just love and wish all my clothes were in. (Only a select few a in the fabric.)
There are probably more, but I can't think of them. D;

Tags are a very well known hatred both in the autistic and allistic world. I am very pleased I live in an age that companies are beginning to print info straight onto clothes. Now I wish they'd use a more permanent ink instead of some kind of plastic scratch-off stuff.

I layer during the winter. I hate shirts and resent the fact it's okay for men to go topless but not women (unless you live in a very rural clan). It's hard finding a neckline high enough to keep me warm that doesn't also choke me. But during the winter I pile on the layers for warmth.

I don't like much of anything tight, and I really don't like whatever they make women's fancy work shirts out of nearly everybody requires you to wear. It's thin, it's cold, it's slippery or outright weird feeling, and whatever thread they use to hem it pokes and itches. And that's not even counting the wild, loud, psychadelic patters they all have these days!

I like tight vest tops if they are very stretchy and so don't feel stiff or restrictive. They can feel a bit uncomfortable when I first put them on, because of the tightness, but once I've adjusted, I actually like the sensation of the pressure. I've just started layering two vest tops to wear in bed, whereas I only use to wear one, and find the extra pressure helps me relax.

I prefer fabrics that are soft to touch, jersey is my favourite

I immediately relax if I hold soft fleecy fabrics, so really like jumpers and dressing gowns that are soft and fleecy

I tend to wear some form of denim trousers for casual occassions away from home and I always feel relieved to take them off and put soft loose joggers on when I get home.

In summer, if its hot (it's england, so not gauranteed:rolleyes:), I like loose soft cotton tops and trousers best. They're not as comfortable as jersy or brushed fabrics but they are more airy feeling and breath better.

Can't stand satin. Satin is to my skin what nails running down a chalk board is to my ears.

Oh yes. For whatever reason I can't seem to stand the necks of t-shirts around my adam's apple. Not really keen on the rough feel of so many cheaply made labels too.

Henleys yes...t-shirts no way! I like turtlenecks in the dead of winter...as long as I didn't shave closely that day.

Me wearing a necktie? Well...only if someone died.

I can't say I hate tags, but yes, I have to remove them fast because they look so untidy.

I hate casual wear. Although I do own around 5 pairs of jeans, I never wear them.
Cannot bear fussy tops or the shirts with pictures or words.
I only will wear black if I am bleeding or for an evening.
Colors are my passion and everything must match.

I HATE tags, to this day at 23! Glad to see i'm not the only one. Most of my clothes no longer have tags in them, but the rare shirt or two does and they will annoy me until i cut them out. In winter i like layers, usually i have an undershirt, a shirt/sweater, and sometimes either a jacket or a blanket as well. I prefer well fitting clothes for the feel of them, I only wear looser, casual clothes on occassion. I'm the same with layers of blankets in bed, only there its not optional i have to have layers, have to have the weight, or i don't feel comfortable and won't fall asleep. Even if its summer and way too hot for layers.

I always wear tshirts but they cant be tight around the neck - feels like being strangled, which is also why I almost never wear a necklace!
And every tshirt is a Pearl Jam tshirt (favourite band).

Lose baggy-ish pants or jeans..
Or pyjama pants..

I hardly ever wear a bra - even though I'm an I/J cup.. It's just SO uncomfortable!
So basicly only when havin' to dress up... Which funny enough, for me, is: same kinda clothes I always wear, just with a bra and a bit lower cut tshirt (Pearl Jam, ofcourse!) haha

If I'm cold, I'll wear a hoodie.. Two if it's very cold! (Again Pearl Jam..)
I haven't owned a jacket for 3 or 4 years. Just don't like it - not even when there is snow and freeeeezin' hehe

Polyester polo shirts. Whoever came up with that idea must have had reptilian scales in place of human skin.

I don't like jeans, and i don't like pants whose pockets are too tight and hard to get into. My usual garb is slightly-oversized t-shirt, cargo pants, and a nice comfy hoodie.

Polyester usually feels like wearing sandpaper to me.

I'm down to maybe one or two polyester shirts that I bought a long time ago.

Oh tags.. I actually have shirts which have them in tact, but they haven't bothered me yet.. but whenever they bother me, out they go.

On the topic of tags; sometimes I see people out, mostly in the summer and they have a tag stick out at the back. Now that really grinds my gears and makes me want to tuck it in... but I reckon if I'd just tuck it in at least someone would think I'm assaulting him/her, lol

Fixed.

Argh, jeans. Must destroy! (Although I do wear the upper half of a Canadian tuxedo, strangely enough.)

I used to really hate socks. These days, I can tolerate wearing them, but even then, it's only when I wear shoes that I have them on. :)
I don't like the sensation of walking around in them.

I don't wear long pants. They feel weird, and I have a (silly) fear that I might trip over them.
So I wear shorts all year-round, even in the cold winter months, lol. :P

Personally, I have always had issues with artificial anything.... it must be precisely what it appears to be or I am uncomfortable with it. I have to have cotton next to my skin... even if it means burning up in the summer. I find wool painful and polyester very uncomfortable.

If I could ban one article of clothing, it would be jeans!!!!! I don't care what anyone says - jeans are the most uncomfortable articles of clothing ever made. The fabric is so thick it probably should only be worn in the winter. And why don't people think they don't need to wash their jeans? I think jeans are just an easy way for people to wear the same clothing day after day and no one knows if they are wearing different jeans or not. Ewe! And we all know that since jeans are cotton they will shrink in the wash down to Barbie doll size. Who wants to do a bunch of squats trying to get their jeans to fit?

Now I'm not a complete Debbie Downer when it comes to jeans as I really love a nice jean jacket and jean leggings are comfy too. I also have some actual jeans, but not anything that I need to lay down on the bed for in order to button them up! And I also used to really love jean overalls. Contrary to what you may believe, I actually used to collect a lot of jean wear by GUESS when I was younger, so I'm not completely against jeans - just button fly jeans, I suppose. :)

I have to laugh because this doesn't usually happen, but I saw this guy about a week ago and I can't stop thinking about what he looked like. I saw him coming out of Hyvee and he had a black suit on with a crisp white shirt (no tie) and black sunglasses on. I'm laughing now because I was driving in the car past him and I actually had to stop the car to do a double-take of him and I was even looking in the rear view mirror at him too! For someone to get my attention like that, they must really be something, but it wasn't his actual looks - IT WAS WHAT HE WAS WEARING! I'm telling you if you want to get the attention of women, wear nice dress clothes and you can make it more laid back by not wearing a tie. I'm still thinking about him and it's a week later!!! I just love a guy in a black suit with a crisp white shirt I guess. :p

Microfiber and many fleece items make me want to scream.

Jeans are terrible, and I think you answered your own question on why people don't want to wash them- they shrink like crazy. Men's jeans seem to be better, it's the stretch component (usually spandex) in women's jeans that makes them lose their shape so bad and so fast. Men's don't usually have much if any stretch to them.

I wash mine less in the winter because I wear long underwear under them, so they don't really get dirty from me, just from the outside world, which makes them more like a jacket for my legs I guess.
