Does anybody else have short term memory?

I struggle to remember my childhood, or even the last few years.

    Ds,14, refuses to accept Aspergers

I like the idea of going to a nearby town so that kids won't know him. Middle school was very, very hard for me. I know you probably don't want to hear this, but I stopped going and got my GED at 15 and started community college at 16. Adults, like at the college, are much more accepting than...

    Christmas & holiday plans?

I might go home to Boston to visit my family if I don't get into clinical trials that I would have to stay in town for, for a serious illness I have.

    jail or the streets?

Having been on the streets for a long time, I'd definitely take the streets over jail, as long as I have a warm sleeping bag. I have a house now, to be clear.

Getting a job after a long gap.

Thank you for all the advice. I'm still waiting to find out if I'll be going home for Christmas or not, I'll start job hunting once I know more.

To work or not to work

I wonder how many of us are employed versus unemployed? I would like to work but consider myself basically unemployable.

Getting a job after a long gap.

Hello, everyone. I haven't had a real job since I was 17 (23 now.) What should I put on a resume, or say when they ask about the 5-year gap in my employment? I'm so nervous and it's keeping me from applying anywhere because of the fear of rejection. Thank you in advance.

School for children with autism opens in South Portland

It won't stay secret for long, I'd guess. On one-way windows if you press your nose up to the glass you can see through them.

    "You look lost!"

A homeless guy yesterday told me "you look like you're having a long day." I get told that/ asked if I'm upset all the freaking time, when I'm just walking down the street, thinking. When I actually AM upset, there's no question about it, haha.

    Looking a lot younger?

Maybe a little. I'm 23 and look like a teenager.

    Bullying

I was a special needs kid, and got bullied mercilessly for that and my odd behavior. I used to have major meltdowns every day, aggravated by the bullying, and was removed from school in eighth grade. I got my GED at 16, went to community college, and never looked back.

    knocks on the door/unexpected visitors

I absolutely hate it. That and the phone ringing unexpectedly. Even if I know someone is coming over, it still makes me just about jump out of my skin.

I love the sound of a purring cat, and a hoo-ing owl. :D

Disclosure: Being true to self vs. protecting self?

I would not tell anyone who you're not very close to, or that you don't know how they'd take it. I would suggest you think about the risks and benefits of disclosure before you tell each person. What do you have to gain by telling people? What do you have to lose? Remember that not everyone...
