Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

Oh, that is a very interesting idea. I haven't thought of that.

Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

Official diagnosis. The psychologist who did his evaluation stressed "very" high functioning.

Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

Thank you so much for those perspectives. I honestly hadn't considered them. I had heard the feeling safe part before which I do believe is true. I sometimes wish parenting came with a manual! 🙃

Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

We have considered that. We are planning to do a martial arts trial class to see what he thinks. I really hope that he loves it. I also want him to learn to swim. I asked his doctor once what a good age was to learn to swim for kids who aren't regularly in pools and she told me five so it's...

Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

Thank you. So, we have tried warning him about taking away toys that he likes if he does whatever again. It doesn't seem to change anything as he will just repeat the behavior and then when the toy is taken away the meltdown begins. He carries on for a long time over losing whatever but it...

Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

Oh, I know to not try to change him. I am simply trying to find out if his behaviors are typical for his age for all children, those who are autistic and/or those who aren't. I'm trying to do my best daily, it's a very complicated task at times.

Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

Thank you. I believe he hears just fine. We often will talk between ourselves, my husband and I, and he will say things like, "Who?" "When is that?". We have found even when we think he can't hear us he will join in the conversation or mention something he heard us say later on. So now we say he...

Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I often feel lost on parenting him. I have read some books and they have really opened my eyes but I don't think I've read the right ones yet to help with parenting him. I have a couple that I am waiting on at the library that explain more about his brain...

Is it normal for all nearly 5 year olds not to listen or is it the autism?

I'm back with another of my daily wonders. My son is a high functioning nearly five year old. I've got basically no experience with kids other than my own. I see kids out in public that appear to be around his age behaving so well. He has a very hard time listening. Examples: We ask him to...

    Is a difficult bedtime common?

Thank you, I am going to check them out. That is interesting about the books. He definitely has had a few favorites over the years and would never stray too far from them. He has probably never read 3/4 of the books on his book shelf.

    Is a difficult bedtime common?

Thank you for sharing that. I definitely see that same thing in my son about the clock. He will not stop in the middle of something to do anything. He will even hold it if he needs to use the bathroom despite us telling him over and over again that whatever he is doing will be there when he is...

    Is a difficult bedtime common?

Thank you! We have been getting him back into his books. He used to be into them but he lost interest. He has been reading since he was 3. Definitely keeping that one in my head for reference if the trouble sleeping carries on for long.

    Is a difficult bedtime common?

Thank you. I just wanted to say I think his room is pretty cozy. He likes a couple stuffies, he just makes sure they're on his bed at night. He has a cool projecting light that changes colors and plays different sounds and he likes the one that sounds like rain to fall asleep to. He has a...

    Is a difficult bedtime common?

It is usually brush teeth, read a book or two, 3-5 min of Google maps or flight radar and then sleep. Husband says it works 80% of the time but then it takes him usually 30-40 minutes. I just looked on Google because I hadn't and I see it says 20-30 min for preschoolers so I guess he isn't too...
