    Autism discrimination

My wife is in a group for spouses of people with Asperger's. One of the moderators of the group, in addition to having a husband on the spectrum, has a son with non-verbal autism. Her neighbor has continually harassed her and told her to lock her child in a shed. I'm sharing the link to her...

    My "freeze loop"

Does anyone have any advice on how to get out of this loop?

How many of you finally admit you will never be in a relationship or married.

This problem should be temporary. With a vaccine, hopefully at least 70% will get immunized, leading to herd immunity. As far as the fatality rate of this virus goes, you have to understand that getting it is not a simple binary die/don't die. There are lasting complications. I had it back in...

How many of you finally admit you will never be in a relationship or married.

I was perpetually single from my teens into my early 30's. But I kept learning from the many one-time dates I got from dating sites. Eventually, I learned how to break the pattern. I always knew that women were attracted to confidence, but I also knew that I could never be that alpha male type...

    Learning Other Languages

I've never learned another language to the point where I can converse with someone. But I do try to learn the basics of a language when I travel. So I can ask for directions, ask where the bathroom is, know the numbers, and can order food in Spanish, Italian, German, Greek, Icelandic, and...

    My Aspie Man

His behavior does not seem out of the ordinary for anyone (including neurotypicals). You have a disability and you rely on him for a lot of things. Whether you are with someone on the spectrum or a neurotypical, that partner will get worn out. It's not your fault, and there is nothing you're...

    not interested

The only time I'm interested in someone else's trip is when it's a place I'd like to visit in the future. Looking at pictures and hearing about experiences helps me to get a feel for an itinerary in my head if I ever get to go. However, sometimes people also think I'm interested if it's a place...

Do you miss seeing things that are right there in plain sight?

I'm not sure if this is due to not seeing, or due to the fact that we have issues with our proprioception. Our perception of where our body is in space in actually slightly off for most people on the spectrum. So you thought your hand was going towards the peas but went for the string beans...

    Alone forever it seems

I was pretty terrible at dating for a long time. The thing that really turned it all around was that I acknowledged that I really liked myself. I also came up with rules to not waste my time. Gary's rule of immediacy: If nothing happens initially, nothing ever will happen. First off, what is...

Wondering if i was in an emotionally abusive relationship

Sadly, seeing what your mother said makes me feel like the relationship with her may be emotionally abusive as well. People often enter abusive relationships when it feels normal to them. Typically, the only way that behavior seems normal is when it is learned early on from childhood. For any...

Do you miss seeing things that are right there in plain sight?

YES!!! I believe the reason is that we look at details and sometimes fail to see the whole. I remember years ago when I was studying psychology, the professor had all of the students participate in a study on Gestalt psychology. Apparently my results were thrown out because it didn't follow the...

    Quiet by choice.

For me this is especially true in times of trouble. Whereas most other people will want to reach out to a friend or family member to discuss life's problems, I keep it all inside. Unfortunately, this is now hurting my relationship with my wife. While I have always had the habit of keeping...

Can anyone here read body language and facial expressions

It is the same with me. I can feel if something is off. In fact, I think we are more perceptive than neurotypicals sometimes when it comes to this.

What did I do wrong... (maybe nothing)

You mention that the group does not allow the posting of locations. But is it possible to private message the person that posted the photo and ask the location? If so, that may be your chance to see a vintage Bombardier.

Smells you hate, but most people love

While I can't name a smell I hate which fits the criteria (i.e. other people love it), I am the only one I know of that becomes completely nauseated at the smell of microwaved vegetables. I gag, cover my mouth, get away if possible. No one else understands my behavior in those situations.
