Lent 2025

Hi I thought I would start this thread as it is Lent for any thoughts or experiences with it. I did Ash Wednesday and did a lent group a couple of weeks ago. I hope to go to another group tomorrow.

I wanted to say this-this period Jesus was being tempted by the devil in the Garden of Gethsemane. I guess he found him just from roaming the earth but it was always in God's plan. I was thinking about Jesus, I think he was probably sensory to some extent with his hearing. I don't think he was neurodivergent having to be Lord and Master of a nation. Having meltdowns wouldn't have worked. I think though he could have heard evil plans of the devil in his ears, gifted.

I aim to do some more prayer myself during this period and my church does more events closer to the date. This is a very passionate period for many Christians.

It's a fairly minor sacrifice, I know, but it's only my first Lent as a Christian and I'd decided to give up potato chips.

I don't attend church, personally (just not my thing, my faith in and relationship with God and Christ are personal), so really other than my Lenten sacrifice (which honestly speaking, considering how much I enjoy snacking...much more of a sacrifice than I thought it would be - especially so since I still have potato chips for Sundays so that temptation is always there for me but yet i do remain strong until Sunday comes.), I've just been praying and studying the Scripture more.

Yeshua (Jesus) was Judean nobility, as the Gospels make clear. Since his main claim during his life was to be King of the Jews, he may have even come from royal lineage. Also, his occupation may be mistranslated-the original Greek may be closer to "architect" than "carpenter". Here was a man who was born into privilege, yet renounced it to walk among the bottom barrel of Judean society-fishermen, prostitutes, lepers. He told them he was King of ALL Jews, and blasted the Jewish priesthood for selling out to the Roman occupiers. He repeatedly condemned the wealthy, despite having come from wealth himself. In fact, when a rich man came to him and asked to follow him, Yeshua told the man to first give all his money to the poor, which the rich man refused to do. Yeshua then remarked that the greedy were barred from Heaven. He was a far more complicated man than many Christians like to admit. I recommend reading the noncanon books of his sayings, including Quelle (available in "Q: The Lost Gospel", which is long out of print but could be found on Ebay) as well as the Gospel of Thomas.
