Are you trained to shoot? I have nothing against guns, but every time I have tried one, I walked away feeling like I was utterly incapable of handling one.

@jsilver reasonably competent marksman. Walking around town gets people to attack you. I consider threatening to run someone over with an automobile a threat just as much as if it was with a more conventional weapon. Usually the same demographics (loud young people, often black but also white, driving overpowered but not well maintained cars.)
Should have bought that Smith and Wesson.

Due to the cost of a decent handgun I may just get bear spray instead as a first line of defense - should conceal about the same, make less noise, and lead to less paperwork.

Get a spray that delivers a steady, coherent stream… Usually this has a some-what viscous “oily” base. You do NOT want an aerosol mist. Mists may “blow back” at you and contaminate you or other bystanders.

These days it's not race anymore, it's anybody who takes the easy way out in life, instead of working to be a productive citizen.
