Everything in your first paragraph are things that really became apparent when we were on holiday. The look of terror on his face when we suggested he wrote an email on his phone to sort out the taxi was so unnerving to see as his daughter. Looking back, we have seen this panic on so many...

I wish he would be able to think like that! I love this thought of being your superpower :0)

Thank you so much for responding. This resonates so strongly. We have just come back from skiing. My dad has skied for 50 years (and skiing is currently one of his obsessions) but the difficulty now is that he realises he can't ski like he used to... which makes him grumpy!!

This makes total sense. But up until last week, my mum found it really offensive and felt like he thought everything was always her fault!

I’ve seen oblivion with him on so many occasions. Even today he nearly hit my mum in the face when he picked something up. He had no idea how close he was, and when she said something, he didnt acknowledge what happened. All my mum wanted was acknowledgment, but in my mind he was thinking “well...

I’m a teacher so I’ve worked with many children on the autistic spectrum, but I just can’t quite get my head round the fact that my dad could be too. It would explain sooo much, but it just seems to alien!

They really have become more prominent in the last 4 years in particular, to the point where my mum is at the point where she is sick of losing friends because of some of the outrageous things he has said and done in the past.. she has some very loyal friends now but my father is increasingly...

Thanks so much for your response.. he is totally unaware that we have concerns about him.. and he is the kind of person who will not even consider that he is anything other than “normal!!” Although I know none of us are!! I just hope we learn how to manage the things he finds difficult in order...

We’ve seen him have meltdowns etc but always put it down to the stress of his job. The sad thing is seeing the lack of conversation with my parents. My mum and I realised that he never starts a conversation unless it’s making a statement about something he’s interested in. We’ve had entire meals...

Thank you.. I realise that, but these are traits that we have seen all our life, but just used excuses for him.

Thank you Mia for contacting me.. I probably have so many questions to ask! How old was he when you realised that the things he said and did weren’t the same as other people his age?

I’m not really sure where to begin to be honest.. I think being connected with someone else who has experience of an older parent with aspergers would be a fantastic start,. Is there anyone out there in a similar situation as me?
