    Mental maps

It's weird, I can find my way around a forest with no problem; I can walk two sides of a triangle then walk straight back to base (across unfamiliar ground). But put me in a city, surround me with buildings, and I loose all sense of direction!

    Mental maps

Defo glad to be back, in spite of all sorts of dramas and issues to deal with here! Van was stolen by a 'friend' who never paid a penny for it. :(

    Mental maps

Hi everyone. I was born in the UK, emigrated to Australia in 1998, moved back to the same UK town in 2016 to care for my elderly parents, and recently moved back to my house Australia in May. I've discovered that I have a mental map of where I am in the world, but I can only hold on to one map...

    My memory problem

I have an eidetic memory, but as a post-menopausal woman my recall can be a bit iffy. I've been taking ginseng for around 18 months and my recall has definitely improved.

How to have normal social interactions?

I've been having exactly the same issues, and I'm 59! I found these resources online. Social Skills Resources for Individuals with Autism But I also found this which I think is very important: Social Skills Training It states: Being able to “pass” for non-autistic is not a positive outcome for...

The feeling of being unable to love others.

I have always got on much better with children and animals than with adult humans. I think a lot of it's because they're so much easier to understand; they're up-front and honest, and if a child or animal doesn't like you they're quite obvious about it! They don't lie or pretend for the sake of...

Are these types of social problems either normal or common for people with autism?

I called a friend once and asked if she wanted to go to an event with me. I wasn't confident enough to go alone. She said she didn't want to go. I later found out she'd gone to that same event with a bunch of other people but hadn't contacted me to go with them. Needless to say I was very...

Are these types of social problems either normal or common for people with autism?

I used to work in a place with a big shared office. I lost count of the number of times I sat there while colleagues arranged social activities but never asked me to join them. When I left that job, I asked one of them why I'd always been left out. He said they didn't think I'd want to join...

Are these types of social problems either normal or common for people with autism?

I have had exactly this experience so many times! It happened recently - a new group of people were very welcoming, giving me hugs etc, then 3-4 meets later nobody speaking to me, seem annoyed with me, I have no idea what I did wrong, came home and cried for 2 hours and didn't go this week. This...

    Animal Facts that are surprising/amazing/weird

Tortoises need to drink water, but I'm not aware of them deliberately going into it. All 'cold-blooded' animals tend live a lot longer than warm-blooded ones; I've heard of tortoises living to around 200, there was also a koi carp in Japan that lived to well over 200! My degree is in Zoology...

    Animal Facts that are surprising/amazing/weird

Red eared sliders are terrapins, but may hide more in the water in captivity if there's not much cover for them on their bit of 'land'. They don't like being exposed out of water - they're usually pretty slow movers and it's too easy for predators to get them. All of the animals we're discussing...

People on reddit and other forums can be so mean

We care on this forum, we're here for you. Stick with those who nurture you and not those who torture you emotionally x

People on reddit and other forums can be so mean

It just feels nicer for me if I pity them instead of getting angry/resentful
