A gift I don't know what to use for

Someone gave me a binder with 8 dividers and 16 sheets of loose leaf paper for each divider. It has a pink folder in the back of it, too, filled with extra papers.

They know I loved to write, but I stopped because I didn't find it beneficial anymore. But I took it anyway and I don't know what to write or what to begin writing. I don't have 8 different subjects to about. And I don't want to mess up the papers or anything. What do I write?

Just because there are 8 sections, that doesn't mean
you need to divide the notebook into 8 topics.

It could be all one topic, for that matter.

Or you could remove some of the dividers.

You could keep journals, instead of writing all the time. They could become eight sections of ideas to expand upon. Later when you feel like writing more.

One of my beloved high school teachers (I honestly like her very much and am sorry I lost contact with her) always suggested starting to write by doing a reflection. A reflection is simply writing anything about yourself; be it concerns, ideas, notions, feelings, moods. Sometimes in the act of simply beginning to write, the ideas naturally flow. She said it is a great way to stop writer's block. She published both fiction and non-fiction and said that she always began each writing session with a brief 250 word reflection to put the mind in writing mode.

I go through so many notebooks all the time. I write about feelings. I write when I'm angry. I write ideas or wants. I make lists, reminders, something I want to make later. If I'm bored I'll even make my own word games. I just love writing and could never sit and watch a movie or tv show without a pen and paper in my hand. I just remembered - before the computer, I used to actually have an indentation on one finger from holding the pen all the time. lol I tell my kids all the time that as for gifts, I'd be happy with a notebook and pen and they're inexpensive. Although they also know I'm picky about the pens and paper. Paper has to be college ruled and pens have to be micro fine. I hate the feeling of writing with a medium point pen. Yes, the feeling of it. Even writing with blue ink or black ink has a different feel to it. Anyone else feel the difference in color ink - same pen?

I want my handwriting to look a certain way, so I can only use pencil with dark lead. I don't like pens, but I do feel a difference with pencils' lead and texture, even color.

You might not have 8 sections to fill now... but once you start with one, an idea for the next one might pop up.. before you know it, 8 won't be enough! :D

Weird, I just ordered binders, pens and a three hole punch. I’m going to use them for organizing vet bills, legal papers, and my taxes and my mom’s taxes that I’m going to start doing for her.
Oh yeah and car maintenance stuff.
If you mess up the papers it’s ok, paper is fairly cheap and you can buy more. It is for you to enjoy!!

I remember one interesting fact a gratitude journal appears to have a good effect on depression I remember it did for me but I can't exactly remember why

I used to love to write, too, but now I hate it. But you don't have to write with that paper. You could takes notes on things you read. I like to do that. You could do origami or you could use it for small projects, like maybe snail mail.

Maybe use one part for shopping lists. If you shop at several stores, you could use it to organize by making lists of things you need where. I make a lot of lists.

I could certainly use a divided binder, come to think of it. In fact your dilemma just solved one of mine. I have all these lists when things run low (I let stuff get WAY low before foraging).....but it might be paper products HERE and food THERE and hardward somewhere else. A multi binder and bingo......one part for each kind of supply needed. Rip out the page and take it, and no more multi trips all over because I keep forgetting something! THANK YOU :-)

Now if I can just figure out which list to put a multi binder on before I get one so I don't forget it.......

COLLEGE LINED, thank you @Pats !! I cannot stand the other. As to pens, I do like fine as well. And oddly, yes, I prefer black! I hate blue, but will use it if I must. Black fine on college lined......how could they tell your writing from mine? :-)

Maybe they could tell because I start from the back of the notebook and go backwards. Funny thing. My daughter in law seen me doing that and said -"Oh that's where 'my son' gets that". He also starts in the back.

You could save the binder for now. I’m sure a use for it will pop up sooner or later. If you have it for a couple years and never find a use for it then you could consider regifting it.

for some reason everything has to be grey ,I don't know why, it just has to be ,I'm trying to find a very dark shade of grey tinted sunglasses ,I go through periods of wanting light Brown, I had after I had laser surgery a period of wanting dark green.
i'm in a period of green ink and a little bit of silver, sometimes orangey copper.
The paper I really want to write on ,is the one used in children's colouring books it's a creamy brown colour , it's very hard to find it in an A5 size !!! don't want smaller at all .
my handwriting is terrible now !because my wrists and hands are weak, I was mortified and shocked, to receive a letter from a utility company- saying they couldn't understand what I had written, I always prided myself on my handwriting being legible , that has been humbled .
i'm also now obsessed by trying to find things but I'm not encased in plastic, so I buy ink and reuse the pens I have. I'm now thinking about the wood less watercolour pencils I've seen ,I would love a huge set of them .

I love to cook and use a 3 ring binder notebook for my recipes. The dividers are used to catalogue types of recipes - one for meat, one for seafood, one for vegetables, one for desserts, one for appetizers, one for marinades, salsas, etc. I write notes on the recipes and modify them to my taste. My kids say they are going to fight each other for my recipe book when I die, LOL.

For a job I had last yr. we were asked to do narratives about our lives and career, maybe you could do something like that.
