A little intro. :)

Hi! This place seems so interesting and friendly; I've been looking for a place such as this. I am an 18 year old girl with atypical autism, and over the years I've learned that the world is simply not made for people like me. I've had trouble with relationships, both professional and intimate. I've felt the isolation, confusion, and loneliness of being unable to connect and empathize with others or outwardly express my inner experiences.

I'm hoping this forum will prove to be a place where I can find people like me who can understand these feelings of frustration that I've felt all my life. I work with autistic children, as well as children with intellectual disabilities every day; they have been the people with whom I have been able to connect most deeply with. They inspire me, they give me hope, and they make me feel very lucky that I have such abilities to communicate and think critically in the way that I do.

I guess that was a little too long... haha. Other than that, I love cats, drawing, and synchronized swimming. I'm obviously super shy and reserved, but I do think I can be pretty fun too! I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone on here; I would love to make new friends and learn new things. :)

Hello Minuet,
I think you will find it comfortable here. We all seem to have similar situations. I love children because they are innocent, unassuming, and understanding. They are also simple, and not afraid to ask for, or tell you what they want. Why can't adults seem to do this?
I have a record of failings a mile long. Jobs, relationships, schools, you name it. I have come to realize that these were all learning opportunities, but because I failed (again) to recognize this at the time, I could not use them to my advantage.
I wish you well, and we are here if you desire help, advice, or just a shoulder.
Peace

Hi Minuet! Welcome to Aspies Central. You have definitely come to a great place. Everyone here is extremely friendly and accepting. There are also really insightful resources to check out. Plus, the discussions, whether they're generated on the threads or on the shoutbox, are great ways to learn from one another. I hope you enjoy everything we have to offer here.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. :) I really look forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome here :). It's nice to meet another woman with autism, since the disorder is more prevalent in men, I haven't 'met' many women with it.

EDIT: I should point out that I'm a woman. XD
