Addicted to my new soundbar.

Metalhead

Video game and movie addict. All for gay pride.

In my new house, I can play things a LOT louder than I ever could in my old apartment. Hence, I purchased a new 5.1 soundbar and subwoofer set, and now I can watch LOTR and have the room rumble when I watch it. I kinda want to go through all of my 4K movies with this new system and neglect self-care in order to immerse myself in aural cinematic greatness for a week or two.

Ahem.

Anybody else love surround sound with their movies?

Subwoofers make life better.

I remember the first time I played video games with surround sound. It was very engrossing.

Couldn't live without my Dolby 5.1 sound system when it comes to movies.

Of course I doubt the movie theaters are thrilled about it. I used to go to the movies regularly for years. Now they come to me. ;)

Maybe I should watch some Joan Crawford movies on my soundbar just to screw with my brain a little bit.

i hate other people's noise. especially thumping bass.

I did test my system by standing right outside of my place with the speakers blasting loudly. With my doors and windows closed, I could barely hear anything outside. My house is nicely soundproof and insulated, no need to piss off the neighbors here.

I wish there was a "Thoughtful!" icon I could click here. That was so kind :-)

If only they were all like you!

I do, and watching LOTR with surround sound is fantastic. At first I would look out window and get all paranoid thinking someone was trying to break it, but it was the surround sound that was hard to get used to at first. It felt like the house was shaking when Gandalf broke his staff on the stone walkway and shouted at the "Flame of Udûn "You shall not pass.":D

LOL...yeah. Suddenly hearing something that acoustically seems to happen almost behind you can be unnerving at first. But then you know just how well the surround sound is actually working.

Indeed, thoughtful owners of such sound systems especially in apartment buildings will be mindful of how such sound travels.

In particular to understand all the pertinent audio settings available like "Night Mode" which shuts off the subwoofer altogether, or "DAC" (Dynamic Audio Compression) which can attenuate all the low frequencies in three stages. Not to mention that one can enjoy multichannel sound in general without having it at high volumes that can disturb your neighbors. I can't stand any sustained thumping bass sounds either.

Even on my 9-speaker 285 watt car audio system I have the bass rolled way back. No need for the whole town to hear what I'm playing while driving.

I love deep thumping bass in my music and in my movie watching - as long as I have control over it. I love it less when it is a neighbor playing gangsta rap at 2AM when I have to be at work in several hours, which I had to put up with on a regular basis at my old apartment. The fact that he was playing music I would normally enjoy (Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg) made it even more annoying to me, actually.

I am grateful that I can play my system loudly and have my living room rumble quite nicely without annoying anybody outside of my house. That is a very nice upgrade from my apartment. I also can barely hear my hippie neighbors when they have their guitar and drunken singing circles on Saturday nights when I am inside my house and my windows are shut. It is very nice. All this insulation also means low heating and A/C bills when I have to turn that system on.

So, does any of you want to come to my house for movies, drinks and cigars? We can pop some popcorn, crack open some IPAs, watch all three LOTR films (the extended editions) in a row with the deep rumbly bass over the course of one night, pass out in the morning. Doesn't that sound like a brilliant idea?
