ADOS test

Hi all

I have an ADOS test tomorrow and am a little nervous. Has anyone had one. What can I expect?

Thanks

Dom

Hi there. :) I recently had my ADOS test, a lot of people here have too, but since no one else has replied I thought I would.

For adults and adolescents it's the ADOS Module 4.
For most people I've spoken to, and myself, this included:
-Making up a picture out of foam pieces
-Describing what's happening in a picture book
-Describing a where's wally type picture
-Demonstrating how I brush my teeth with imaginary toothbrush, toothpaste and sink
-Questions about relationships, social life and emotions
-Making up a story out of 5 random objects

Looking back now I can see also that they tried to engage me in small talk throughout the test as a form of social press, this is to see how you respond to social cues.
They're testing for 2 main things, social and communication. You're scored on both of these and they make up your diagnosis (or not)

I hope that helped. :) I'd say just be yourself without worrying about how you're acting or what the result will be, that's the best way forward.

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me, and for such a clear description.

It doesn't sound so bad. I'm not overly concerned about the outcome, that will be what it is, just nervous about the unfamiliar and a test :)

Remember that the questions or tasks are not the assessment itself — they don't have a right and wrong answer. They are simply there to create a context in which they can observe how you act/interact. You will probably be much more worried about if you gave the 'correct' answer than they are. But if you do get stressed by the test, that's fine. They want to see that too. Just be yourself.

I have mine next month. Just had two assessments, and the psychologist said that I have ASD traits, but she's unsure if these are due to autism or past events having affected my communication and emotional interactions.

I'm not sure how this test will differentiate the two scenarios, but willing to go through with it.

From reading through posts on here and other places, the tests seem to be fairly standardised, so I can assume I will be given the same tasks.

My issue is, I've already felt completely drained from the two assessment sessions that I've had, how draining is this going to be?
