SolarPoweredNightOwl
Walking contradiction
I chose the name Solar Powered Night Owl because I'm nocturnal by inclination, but function better on a diurnal schedule... the first of many contradictory aspects of my personality. I figured out I'm on the spectrum about 5 months ago now. It wasn't a conclusion I came to willingly, but once I did the research and looked back on my life, especially childhood, there was simply too much evidence to ignore. I'll probably write more about that process in a blog post or something, but for now, the important stuff.
I'm a 30 year old male born and raised in the US. I am self-diagnosed, and have no immediate plans for formal diagnosis (no point spending time and money I don't have when there's no accommodations or supports worth the bother). I have myself listed on here as Asperger's, since I don't like the functioning labels, but usually refer to myself simply as autistic. (Either's fine though, I won't get bent out of shape if you call me Aspie.) At this time, I've only told my partner, my mother, and my sister about my autism, although according to my sister, others in my family have long suspected I'm on the spectrum but never broached the subject with me.
I joined this forum partly to socialize with fellow neurodiverse people, and partly to study and learn from others and try to improve my own life and mental health. I look forward to reading what you all have to share.
