Andrew Baxter Cunningham-Shaw; in memoriam, 1 year later

I just thought I'd put a little post up here to send my love to my late friend, teacher and mentor Andrew Shaw AKA Mr Classical, our high school music teacher, who we lost to pancreatic cancer 1 year ago on Wednesday. He touched so many lives, and he was such a dear friend of many years, who was fundamental in bringing me out of my shell and making me who I am and who literally hundreds of people in my area are today. A phenomenally gifted musician, composer and conductor, terrifying to all the 7th graders (especially when they missed choir practice!) and loved by everyone. The pain is still raw even after a year, and I know I'll be drinking to his memory tonight.

Thank you buddy. Missing you still, when it's my time, have the grand piano waiting for our duet!

It was kind of you to memorialize him like this & share his legacy with us. Truly excellent teachers are rare but when you're fortunate enough to land one, they change lives for the better & turn many kids around when they were going the wrong way. Thanks, Laura!

Thanks Soup :) I just felt he was someone who really deserves to be recognised as a truly brilliant person, as the scary music teacher and as the crazy guy who came skipping into the classroom every class wearing far too much fake tan and said hi with a jovial wave, evil grin and a dirty joke, and also as the one who you could go on tour with all around Europe and would burst into song outside a Belgian bar and now I'm remembering that magical, hilarious moment in Poland when he casually offered to buy us all ice-creams just so he could chat up the guy serving them! I've got a tear coming down my cheek but a big grin on my face at the same time thinking of him, it's so weird!
