The fifth annual Autism's Got Talent showcase in association with Anna Kennedy Online took place this weekend at The Mermaid Theatre

The fifth annual Autism's Got Talent performance wowed audiences at The Mermaid Theatre in London as it took to the stage on Saturday May 7.

Hosted by Anna Kennedy and supported by Pineapple Performing Arts, Autism's Got Talent provides a platform that showcases an array of diverse talent from performers who are on the autism spectrum.

Established by Hillingdon -based autism charity Anna Kennedy Online, the event has been going on for five years in order to raise awareness of autism.

This year, as well as the UK, the showcase saw talented individuals and groups from Croatia, the United States and Canada.

Celebrities also made an appearance to present the performers onto the stage, including Melanie Sykes, Lizzie Cundy, Robin Windsor, and The A Word's Lee Ingleby and Molly Wright.

Anna Kennedy OBE, founder of autism charity Anna Kennedy Online, said: "The acts this year have been phenomenal and the show was an emotional roller coaster for all involved. The level of talent is incredible, and the feedback and support has been overwhelming.

"This is a great opportunity for those with autism to get up on stage and really show what they can do. So often society views these people as difficult and uncommunicative but this event will really dispel that myth with some fantastic talent on display."

This year, the performers included singers, dancers, poets, magicians, musicians and gymnastics.

Maggie Paterson, head of Pineapple Performing Arts, said: "We are so pleased to have co-hosted this event. I have been truly amazed at how talented and committed these people are.

"They show us, again and again, that we should never label people and always look for the best to come out naturally."
