Hi! I'm female, 43 years old at the time of writing this, and I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 2012 after losing one job and quitting a second one in quick succession due to severe anxiety issues which eventually lead to a burnout that I'm still slowly recovering from. My realisation that I'm on the spectrum and subsequent diagnosis has helped me a lot to understand the social and anxiety issues I've had throughout my life and provided an explanation as to why I've always felt different to other people. In many ways, it came as a relief, I feel I can begin to like myself more and accept myself for who I am.

I'm a huge fan of prog rock, hence my choice of username and avatar, but other 'special interests' have involved learning specific languages and learning about the countries where they are spoken. I'm from the UK but now live in Greece. I also enjoy sci fi, documentaries (especially ones about science, astronomy and the human brain), walking in the forest and of course, listening to music, music is the one friend, the one constant in my life... but ok, that's enough, I'm rambling now... :)

Welcome aboard! :)
I think you will find this a wonderful place very friendly, supportive, and well regulated. Viva Pink Floyd. ;)

Hi, Progster. I'm female, 53 and self-diagnosed. This is a good forum in which to express yourself and share your interests. We have a good group here. Welcome!

Thanks for your greetings, everyone :)
Welcome :)

Sorry to hear about your job. You'll find many of us can relate to the stresses of employment. I hope you feel right at home here.

I've been reading around forums and blogs quite a bit since the diagnosis and I've noticed that a lot of older adults with AS around my age receive a diagnosis after going through some kind of crisis like anxiety issues of depression or losing their job... it's just a shame that it has to get to that point to receive a diagnosis and get recognition and help. I wish I could have been diagnosed as a child because that's when I really needed help. I know I'm not alone in this.
