Any sports fans?

I don't think I really would care much about sports if it wasn't for my father, but I have become overly obsessed at times with sports.

I'm a big Cleveland sports fan and obsessed over wanting LeBron James to get injured or start to play poorly four years ago. It's really purely emotion and has really no logical effect on my life other than giving me something to do, which is why I don't see many aspies being huge sports fanatics, but I was curious.

I am a huge sports fan. I will watch pretty much any sport, but my favorites are baseball, football, and NASCAR racing.

I am mostly a fan of New York area sports teams, as I am originally from New Jersey. My favorite baseball team is the Mets (which means I'll probably never enjoy seeing a World Series title for a long time) and my favorite football team is the Giants (who have actually spoiled me by winning a couple Super Bowl titles recently).

In NASCAR racing, my favorite driver is Carl Edwards, but I am a fan of pretty much all of the drivers that drive Fords. There are a few drivers that I dislike though, namely Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, and Jeff Gordon. Although I guess Jeff Gordon isn't as bad as he used to be.

Really the only sport that is on TV here on a regular basis that I cannot watch is tennis. That has never really interested me. But pretty much anything else I watch.

I love watching skateboarding and the X games. :D And I've watched some UFC and boxing when I got the chance.
Well I did watch those sports, until my satellite company charged extra for the sports channels.

God I miss those days...

I have zero interest in team sports. I do enjoy watching figure skating and women's gymnastics. I don't enjoy playing on a team because I can't completely measure MY performance while in a team. If I play something I want to know exactly how well I did and not have to rely on someone else to support or assist me. I don't feel any competition if I am in a group. When I play something with a partner I am never satisfied that a victory was due to MY effort and expertise. I want everyone to concentrate on the game and always give 100 % effort and attention.

I follow the A's, Raiders, Sharks, Cal football, and road course racing. I can't sit still when watching a game unless I have the remote for some reason. I feel like I have to fiddle with the cable menus while I watch.

Hmmm, so if other Aspies don't share my complete lack of interest in observing team sports I guess my indifference isn't an Aspie thing. I don't feel any connection with a team, often from some different state, and don't understand what it is that makes someone choose to develop a fierce loyalty to that team. I grew up in CT and now live close to Syracuse so when CT does better than Syracuse I get a perverse sense of satisfaction. Team sports are often violent and many people love the violence. I can't imagine getting excited by a crowd that roars, cheers and boos various plays. I didn't even enjoy watching my kids participate in sports. I can thoroughly enjoy a good classical music concert and some operas. I LOVE the group The Capitol Steps. So, what's wrong with me? I was totally miserable when my family had picnics with friends, went to visit them, or joined in a neighborhood ball game because I was FORCED to participate in any game played.

My only remaining ties to California. The Niners, the A's and the Sharks.

Can't wait to see a rematch against the Seahawks. It will be brutal.

I can't get all emotional about sports myself, unless it's my daughter playing little league baseball. I do find major league baseball relaxing to watch. I like the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays. I also like NASCAR, but have a hard time sitting long enough to watch a full race. The first 10 laps and the last 20 are the most exciting to me. I pull for Jimmie Johnson mostly because he and his crew chief run a very intellectual carefully thought out race, but I like a lot of other drivers too.
