Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey

I drink apple cider vinegar diluted in water when I get the chance. It is excellent for blood sugar control, for instance, known as "nature's metformin." (So skip the honey, that does nothing.) And since most people eat far too much carbs for their bodies to handle, we can use all the help we can get.

Here's an excellent take on it from someone I find quite sharp:

The Virtues of Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is nasty-tasting!!! The honey is to make it palatable...ACV has many good and healing properties, and honey is a natural anti-biotic/viral/fungal as well, so its just two of the same outcomes. For me, ACV is useful for yeast issues, colds/flu, and general ph-balancing, but it tastes so gross I have to be in the mood to feel good.

I drink ACV in water each day. Good probiotics, good for improving the body's pH.
Heh... I used to drink it without diluting it, totally unaware that I was burning my throat! (The powers of autistic shutdown numbness...) One morning, I was barely able to swallow. ;) Drink it in water, and you'll be fine!

Be mindful to turn the bottle upside down and shake vigorously, so that the solution is cloudy.
ACV has helped my absorption of nutrients it seems, as well. It has also improved my dog's digestion very significantly. I did not feel better right away, it took about 4 days before I noticed feeling better.

In Chinese medicine, a solid organ will have a hollow organ as their "buddy organ." The brain's buddy is the large intestine. Makes sense that in Western medicine, we say "Your mood, and your immunity, are in your gut."
I think taking probiotics (keep them in the fridge), and ACV, helps mood improve.

Best of luck to you! :)

Wow, it sounds like I've been missing out on something good. I have a gallon of ACV and a huge jug of honey, so starting this week I'll try the concoction.

Like Judge, I have acid reflux. Mine is caused by a hiatal hernia. Some nights it's so bad that I wake up almost drowning from the "backwash" of stomach acid. They put me on Nexium for a while and a different doctor put me on Prilosec (the prescription-strength stuff). I was never convinced either worked and then I heard about how dangerous the stuff is, so I flushed all of it down the toilet. I found that I got better results from eating yogurt than the pills.

For me I have found two things to be of optimal benefit against acid reflux. Proper hydration, and diet. Simply put, keeping my PH values healthy with water and staying away from all the obvious foods that immediately "trigger" my reflux issues.

Though for the present, I still take OTC Nexium every four months, and on occasion Ranitidine and or Maalox.

I agree 100% about staying hydrated. If I am feeling bad for almost any reason, drinking a bottle of water helps. I used to say that I would never pay for water in a bottle, but now I do not leave the house without my little cooler with a few bottles of water. (We recycle the bottles).

I take 40mg of Omeprazole (Prilosec) with my morning meds every day. That is the one med that I will know if I miss it. I will wake up in the middle of the night with heartburn. It does not help with the reflux issue other than it does not burn as bad when it happens. For GERD, I watch my diet, drink lots of water and sleep on two pillows.

The "bugs" in the yogurt are good for digestion. It is like taking a probiotic, it is alive.

I've had BPH for over ten years. A major reason why I have restrained my fluids intake. Yet it was only about a year ago where I truly realized how toxic this has been to my body. My reflux symptoms are much less than before as long as I keep up my fluid intake. Not an easy proposition, but then reflux is far more unpleasant than BPH.

Gotta keep drinking fluids to maintain a health PH value. Otherwise I'm just enabling my own reflux. Ugh.

My Gram was a huge aficionado of apple cider vinegar, she even had one of the original books and a 1930's brochure extolling the merits of it. I've tried using it at various times in my life for weeks, but all it did was upset my stomach and digestion. Like you Sportster I have a hiatial hernia, and used to have acid reflux.

The less stressful my life, including no contact with my biological family has made the acid reflux disappear. Changing my diet a little at a time has helped as well, no red meat, and quite a lot less animal protein has helped. Now I eat more fish, cooked vegetables, just a few grains, very little bread. It's changed my constitution, and eventually I'm looking to remove most dairy products with the exception of yogurt and some cheeses.

Think that whatever you do, as long as it leads to feeling better, will work.

Some people also like to dilute it in water and drink it as a beverage. Common dosages range from 1-2 teaspoons to 1-2 tablespoons per day.

Gram drank it in warm water (1 T) an hour before bedtime. You could likely work up to that, trying it in small amounts first, to see what it's benefits are.

I doubt I could keep it down without diluting it with water or something else.

Vinegar and or mustard is often used to make people and animals vomit. So keeping it down whether it's mixed with water or not has a lot to do with controlling your gag reflex, something I'm not very good at. Probably why I can't use the stuff.

I use white vinegar ever so often to remove waterspots and clean windows. I can barely stand the smell. Don't have a gag reflex though about much of anything. The worst smell to me though is cigarette smoke, that invokes a fight or flight response.

Problems with digestion can seem like too much stomach acid, when it might be too little. I retrained my system by taking Betaine HCL and it did wonders.

I know there are many in our little community here that prefer natural remedies, so I thought I'd pick a few brains to get some thoughts on the following.

The other day I came across something on the internet about "Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey." The way the articles (I found several) read, the concoction is will cure almost anything. Some of the sites had comments by others touting it as the next best thing to penicillin and The Fountain of Youth.

Naturally, I ran out bought the ingredients to try. However, I'd like to hear from others that may have tried it or have heard about it.

I mix honey and cinnamon to cure colds and similar infections, haven't been sick more than a day since I started. Didn't know there was a vinegar version too.

Hmm, I might add a dash of cinnamon to the concoction tomorrow morning. It might give it a little pizzazz.

Supposedly the vinegar is supposed to help with a number of things, so I'm willing to give it a try. The taste isn't as bad as I had expected. I did notice the acid reflux didn't flare up today, so that made it worthwhile.

I mix them 50 / 50, so the cinnamon is very strong. It's kind of hard to eat but very effective. I may try adding the vinegar next time.

I had an old paperback by this guy.
Got it used someplace. It fell apart and I kept
the cover and a couple pages for quite awhile.

I don't have the cover anymore and ever since
this thread started I have been trying to read
what his name was, on that cover, in my head.
It was Jarvis. [The book cover was light green.]
