Aspie Parent

Hi everyone, our 10 yr old was diagnosed with Aspergers on Saturday, something we'd been suspecting for years. Unfortunately, I see a lot of the traits in myself too so being a parent can be a challenge especially to a child with special needs.

Along with the AS diagnosis he was given ADHD, Generalized Anxiety, and Depression. I have all of those as well. So I guess I am here for advice and to see things through the eyes of other Aspies because we have a lot to learn about this that can help my son and us as his parents.

Hi Kamell and welcome,
You'd be surprised, just how many parents like us, become aware, when our children are diagnosed.
Cheers

Glad you are here - I can relate to being an Aspie parent of an autistic child, as well as dealing with depression and anxiety besides. Just like anything in life, there are good parts and bad parts; one of the good parts is that I often understand where my son is coming from better than a lot of other people and can also share my own coping strategies with him. Anyway, I hope you feel welcome and will continue posting.
