Autism Traits...

The thread to list autism traits, as some of us may not even realize the traits we have unless we hear others discuss them.

I will start.

Prosopragnosia (Faceblindness). Did you know that the majority of those who have issues with recognizing others are on the spectrum (Often when we see them in places we do not expect them to be along with "Grouping" many different people assuming them to be one person etc, etc), and that the few who have not been assessed yet for autism who know they have issues with faceblindness are highly likely to be autistic and not even know it?

Now your turn to add autism traits to this thread. (Lets add one trait a time or one or two traits at a time if they are closely connected).

Alexithemia: Alexithymia, also called emotional blindness, is a neuropsychological phenomenon characterized by significant challenges in recognizing, expressing, sourcing, and describing one's emotions. It is associated with difficulties in attachment and interpersonal relations.

Anthrophobia. Also called anthropophobia. Fear of people. It can range from dislike of being in close proximity to other people to dislike of being in crowded places up to full blown screaming panic in a crowd. It is NOT social anxiety, but many people equate it to social anxiety on steroids

Talking in a monotone voice. (Never forget that when I asked someone who knew a lot about autism when I didn't know much about it, and I asked her my traits, she listed 30 traits one after the next which the only one I was not too sure about that I had was a monotone voice! I can't remember the others! Just the one I was questioning if I had! (My voice does alter a little so is not monotone, but I have met a lady one time briefly who had an extreme monotone voice. She came out with another person in an ambulance when my Dad had locked himself in his bedroom and tried to commit suicide after his doctor kept altering his medication (Doctor was always doing this and refused to believe that it was possible that his altering the medications effected his mental state. Even the police were fed up of being called out and were trying to get the doctor to see reason but the doctor said "It had to come from him" and not others like us telling the doctor, so we were living on edge for a few years before he died as he was going from one personality to the next, and the changes were sudden and could be several times in an hour. He was fine until doctors put him on medication!)))

People with hyperphantasia are supposed to be face blind or not good at math both wrong in my case I guess Adam Zeman needs more people like me among his samples.

I visualize the math no good at proofs also no good at programming suck at computers. More In common Srinivasa Ramanujan.

I just noticed that nobody has mentioned The Big One. Socially non-functional. Most of these things mentioned fit into that one way or another. Sort of like not seeing the forest because of all the trees in the way.

That's a kafkatrap. Maybe nobody wanted to state the obvious and just note the grey areas instead.

What does socially non-functional actually mean? Lots of us are socially functional.

The one thing that I noticed NT's see trees Autistics see the forest I see the individual different coloured trees in the forest.

I never get this details thing. Does seeing the big picture mean considering the long-term effects and/or the principle of a situation? Or what?

I'm good at math not the proofs and all the rigor but rather visualizing how it looks proof are the trees, the visual is the forest the individual coloured trees is the different branches of mathematics and which one applies to each visual. How I resolve real life puzzles. individual facts are the individual trees the overall puzzle is the forest individual specific facts are the coloured trees I can spot them ignoring the other trees that are just green.

-Unusual and intense interests such as troll dolls, cartoons, video games.
-Collecting things based on those interests.
-Saying things that are unintentionally rude or inappropriate and not realizing until someone points it out.
- Role playing with dolls and stuffed animals even as an adult because I really didn't know how to socialize with real people.
-Lack of eye contact
-Relating more to fictional characters than real people
-Being more interested in animals than real people
-Overwhelmed by loud, noisy crowds
-Having strong emotions. So strong sometimes that it just plain hurts. Most NTs think we don't have emotions at all, it wasn't long ago when the "experts" thought we couldn't even feel depression and yet we're much more likely to commit suicide.
Preferring practical and comfortable clothing.
Black-and-white thinking.
