Three men and a teenage boy in the dock after horror attack on vulnerable man - who was beaten and burned over petty row

A gang of four thugs tortured a young autistic man for more than 24 hours in a petty row over an Xbox.

The 20-year-old was bundled into a van and held against his will in a flat in Partington, Trafford, while he was battered, kicked and burned with a cigarette lighter for hours on end.

The victim suffered a catalogue of appalling injuries after being kidnapped - and was so badly injured his eye sight may never fully return.

His terrible ordeal can be revealed as a judge handed down stiff jail sentences to the gang.

The vulnerable man became an unwitting target after he was accused of damaging a games console belonging to Eshan Abtahi, who employed him as a part-time gardener.

Abtahi accused him of breaking the item - and demanding it was replaced.

Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court heard how the frightened victim tried to steer clear of Abtahi by keeping a low profile.

But Abthai responded by orchestrating a kidnap plot, roping in his friends Daniel Allen, Phillip Reilly and a 17-year-old man who can not be named for legal reasons, into his plans.

The victim was then kidnapped in May last year and was taken to a flat on Westmoreland Road, Partington, where Abtahi repeatedly punched and kicked for the next 24-hours and later threatened to kill him and dump his body in the River Mersey.

Dad-of-four, Abtahi, the ringleader of the group, of Worthington Road, Sale, later used a kitchen knife to ‘slice his head’ and hit him with the flat part of the blade. He also used a cigarette lighter and burned the edge of his ear.

It was said that, Allen, 29, of Garden Walk, Partington, was also witness to the attack and threatened the victim’s mother in a phone call saying her son had taken a ‘kicking’ and would be killed if an Xbox was not produced.

The victims suffered a range of injuries: including burst eye vessels and blurred vision which has never fully recovered, a broken nose, and a punctured lung.

Prosecuting at Minshull Street Crown Court, Peter Cadwallader said: “He (the victim) believed he would be killed at a very early stage.

“There was an element of torture, not just the continuing punches and kickings, but he (Abtahi) keeps going back and doing it again and again and again.”

Abtahi got hold of a knife and asked Reilly and the 17-year-old to stab him - but both refused.

The victim’s mother contacted police who found the men and took him to hospital. Abtahi pleaded guilty to kidnap, grievous bodily harm with intent and threats to kill.

The victim wasn’t well enough to tell police what had happened to him for several days - but during interview revealed how he feared he was going to die.

Detective Inspector Helen Bell from GMP’s Trafford Borough said: “This was a horrifyingly vicious and sustained attack. The level of terror and the violence that the victim was subjected to was like something out of a horror film.

"He was lucky to escape with his life and medical professionals stated he would possibly not have survived, if the specialist police teams had not got to him when they did.

“These men will spend the foreseeable future behind bars, and the victim will be recovering from the mental scars for years to come, all over an Xbox. There have been few occasions in my career where I have witnessed such sickening and senseless violence.

“I would like to commend the victim for his bravery. I am glad we have been able to get him the justice he deserves.”

Allen pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and grievous bodily harm.

Reilly pleaded guilty to kidnap and grievous bodily harm.

The 17-year-old also pleaded guilty to kidnap and grievous bodily harm.

Passing sentence on Friday morning, Judge Angela Nield, said: “You, Abtahi, were exclusively responsible for the beatings but the rest of you played your parts getting the complainant to the flat.

“On the face of it the motivation was as simple as the complainant had apparently caused damage to an Xbox belonging to Abtahi.

“Between you, you have succeeded in destroying the lives of this young man and his mother.”

Abtahi was sentenced to 11 years and eight months in prison. Reilly was sentenced to five years and four months in prison. The 17-year-old was sentenced to an 18-month detention and training order. Allen will be sentenced at a later date.

that is absolutely appalling,i am sickened by their behavior,i honestly hope the young man recovers from that,i mean mentally-i hope the scumbags get serious punishment for that-they need to be taken off the streets.

im actually not surprised where it happened though, partington is an absolute **** hole,it looks like the estate in shameless uk if you have ever seen that.
the area is full of gangsters and just awful people,i used to live there in a secure residential home and some prick from the area stole 5 beloved home raised chickens of mine for cock fighting [according to police], plus people were regulary robbing the shops there and every couple of months stealing cable from the phone lines thus leaving us with out any phone or internet connection for one week plus.

I feel sad for the boy i hope he has a good and full recovery and as for the attackers they need to be locked away behind bars and some people would just say kill the 4 pos so they can,t hurt anyone else - this makes me sad :(

I don't know what else to respond but with anger and nausea. I hope the boy recovers completely and those perpetrators get what they deserve. This kind of stuff makes me cringe at the though of how easily people with autism can be abducted and abused by some sicko who needs serious mental help. Couldn't they just leave him alone ! Why resort to such cowardice over a flipping Xbox ? If they're really thugs then I don't think they got that Xbox legitimately. freaking people!
