Hi

New to the forum.

Never thought I might have aspergers, was diagnosed with the usual suspects (ADHD, OCD) and perceived as eccentric. Lack of empathy quickly voided Aspergers as such *edited missing words*, except people often tell me I lack empathy. I don't, I just can't figure out why you're unhappy.

My son (4) was diagnosed a few days ago and I came across this in reading up on it.

I never thought him especially strange, the only thing that I couldn't make sense of was his outbursts. He needs social behavior explained to him to know right from wrong and specifically what the underlying principle at play is as to WHY it is right or wrong to be able to apply it to any other situations. Nothing weird there, everybody does, don't they? He hates making eye contact, again, I had to force and then teach myself to do so, nothing weird about that. He prefers his own company, good on him, self sufficiency so early in life! The list goes on.

Anyways, Still reading up here, but the first few threads I read I felt much at home. People generally look at situations and reasons objectively and draw conclusions based on that, complete with acknowledging assumptions as such not facts. Rare to see the like. I like it.

Hey all!
