Awaiting official diagnoses... Evaluator did say she would be surprised if I did not have it

Hi everyone... After a bunch of stuff going on my new therapist insisted that I get evaluated for autism. I'm 41 now and I served in the Navy. I have always been a bit off and more people leave me pretty quickly. I had my evaluation and I am waiting for the results. The Dr. did say that many of my responses were very much in line with autism and that she would be surprised, if after analyzing everything, I didn't have something going on. It would finally explain my life and everything that is going on.

I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) a few years back and it never felt right compared to other people I know who have it. Turns out that a BPD diagnoses as an adult is often a misdiagnoses when someone has autism and they have not been evaluated yet. I'm trying to figure out where I fit in now... I am definitely high functioning (although I know there is better way to say that so if you know please educate me).

I'm not sure how I will be treated by people and work if they find out.... So I am here looking to chat about what it is like and finally talk with people who understand what I am saying.

Morgan

Yes, a forum like this is much better for talking. And can be very useful in your own evaluation of your diagnosis. Best to be very cautious about disclosure I think. Its your own business just like any other medical information.

Hi and welcome.
Congratulations on serving in the Navy. You surely have solid stress management and coping skills if you did it.

Welcome.

Let us know how the diagnosis turns out. Even though I'd known what the results would likely be, I remember it was a strange corner to have definitively turned.

Thank you, btw, for serving.
