Hi, I wanted to let everybody know that last year I decided I needed a break from the online autism community here at Autism Forums. I didn't get any email alerts from Whipp Media for a while, and assumed that the forum was defunct, but recently the mail has started up again, so I decided to come back.
I finally bought a piece of property in far northern California, in an area known locally as the "State of Jefferson", a nod to the feelings of individualistic-minded locals to the distant state govt in Sacramento, and also to the physical isolation of the area, even today with Interstate 5 (a freeway) running through it. I will likely move next spring, and live off the land as a hermit as much as possible.
My hometown is so crowded now, everybody is fleeing the Bay Area, and it takes four hours in bumper to bumper traffic to drive one way from Sacramento to San Jose, when even during the dot.com era it took two. I'm fed up. Rent is simply unaffordable, and nobody wants to rent to people on govt benefits because all the landlords think we're all "destructive" and on drugs. My mom is no longer able to take care of our house/land, but can't sell as long as I live here. I finally have another place to go, so she can sell in a couple years and move into senior living.
