Beatles / Factory Records / drumming

Start page keeps asking me to introduce myself before I can do anything else on the site. I wasn't sure what to put for the title of this post, but the three things there are topics in which I have a passionate (some friends say obsessive) interest. So for introduction - I'm Jimmy, I love cats, poetry, The Beatles, Factory Records Manchester and drumming. Though I have a drumkit, I'm not especially talented at music. But I'm fascinated by the drums in all music I listen. If listening to music without drums, I like imagining where they might go. A bit more intro: it's been suggested by some professionals (who I've seen because of severe anxiety, and obsessive need for routine) that I may have AS. I think that's probably right - but am not formally diagnosed (yet). Since many friends and family (including, er, two parents) also suggested I may have AS, I've developed an intense interest in the topic of autism itself, and like to read a lot about it. I find forums helpful in many ways. They often address subtleties of AS experience with which I can really identify - and for that reason I find they're often better than websites run by professionals. Er - now I've written the introduction, is there a chance that fewer adverts will appear when I try to begin entering this forum? Thanks for reading.
 
Welcome, Jimmy. I'm also very obsessed with Factory Records. It used to just be Joy Division/New Order, but when the Factory Records sampler came out a few years ago, I got into A Certain Ratio and Section 25 and Minny Pops etc. I want to go visit Manchester one day.

Thank you, and good to hear from you. I love those bands too. I went to see Section 25 play live last year, and they were brilliant. I find the whole Factory scene and story very heartening - and the stories of the Factory directors, as much as the musicians. Tony Wilson and Martin Hannett, whatever mistakes they may have sometimes made, always seemed to have a real grace in believing in their instincts and seeing things through, despite detractors.
 
Welcome to AC, Jimmy. Yeah, the Beatles are at the top of my music pyramid too. However I was into drumming in particular, personally I'd focus on the Dave Clark Five.

Dave Clark's drumming was to rock what Gene Krupa's drumming was to swing music. :cool:

Thank you for reminding me of how wonderful this song is - and yes, the drums! It feels like the sound of an understanding friend responding to the sensitive words being sung and shared. I'd always liked 'In My Life', but when I first heard how it is used at a certain point in the 1988 film 'Imagine: John Lennon', I absolutely fell in LOVE with this song.

Thank you Judge - since reading your message, I have listened to the Dave Clark Five closely for the first time, and I absolutely agree! I've just enjoyed listening to, amongst others, 'Over and Over', 'Glad All Over' and (my favourite so far) 'Catch us if you Can'.

Many of our members will agree that Dr. Tony Attwood's work is a good place to start, as he is an expert who has taken quite a lot of interest in understanding those on the spectrum with great accuracy.

Thank you Vanilla for this helpful welcome, which I really appreciate. (And yes, I understand and respect the site's position with regard to adverts). I have read some of Tony Attwood's work, and admire it greatly. I will also have a look at the Resources link. Thanks, Vanilla, for helping to maintain this important site :)
