Being upside-down

I've read an article somewhere a few months ago and it said that being upside-down had a calming effect on people with AS. I tried it myself and after about 5 minutes I actually started to feel tired and yawn uncontrollably. Out of curiosity I asked my friend IRL who also has AS to try it, but I didn't tell her what was supposed to happen to ensure it wasn't some sort of a placebo effect. She said aside from a unrelated headache, that she did feel a calming effect take place. I also tried it with a few NT friends and they didn't feel a thing.

The article said to sit against a wall, back on the floor, legs resting up against the wall and your arms out

Does anyone know how this works? I tried looking it up but I couldn't find anything on why this happens…
 
The pressure gives me a pounding head. I don't like being upside down and people don't like me with a throbbing headache.
 
When I was a teenager I often used to watch TV upside down - with my legs over the back of the couch and my head hanging down over the front of the seat. Might try it again after a few decades of abstinence :D
 
Idk, but it doesn't sound bad if only done a little while. You are stretching things in an unusual way which is likely good, like yoga or stretches are good. People elevate their legs sometimes also for some physical relief. But I would want to do it too long a period of time, for it would deprieve the legs too drastically and put pressure on your head. Monkey's and apes (as well as little kids) swing upsides down as well. If you ascribe to evolution it may be something we used to do regularly. :D
 
Perhaps a little off topic, but if evolution is real (and I think it is) then it's also real that it is ongoing and to conclude that humans are the end-result of the process is illogical. Perhaps an 'upside-down' human would be an evolutionary improvement :D
 
Humans removed natural selection, so we are changing, but it's without direction or drive; we have healthcare, so to die from doing stupid stunts is less likely than not, we prepare food for others so dying from parasites and diseases is rare; we're not fighting each other and other species for survival, so to say that humans are "evolving"…
It's a stretch…
 
I don't see any real connection to AS specifically. I have heard the upside down thing before, ages ago actually, not in connection to AS, as some kind of exercise. It may well have a calming effect, but would likely go for anyone. It may be more noticable to people who are more anxious/with tight muscles, etc.
 
I find being upside down very uncomfortable, I don't like the feeling of pressure in my head.
 
I do not think that would work for this old guy. Because of reflux issues, I like to keep my head above the rest of my body.
