A BOY with Asperger’s syndrome was subjected to a sickening attack by a group of teenagers in Greenock town centre.
The 11-year-old, pictured, too scared to be identified, was set upon outside Burger King on West Blackhall Street on Saturday at around 6.15pm in front of his younger brother, who also has the learning disability, and a friend.
A group of about a dozen youths began verbally abusing the three boys and when the victim spoke up for himself he was viciously kicked in the leg twice, knocking him to the ground.
He suffered a blow to his head as a result of the fall and also cut his elbow.
The ringleader is said to have been a girl aged 13 or 14 and she was the one who carried out the attack.
The boy said: “They started calling us names then we walked away and they followed us.
“I spoke back to them and then the girl kicked me full force – twice – in the leg and I fell and hurt my head and elbow.
“I’d never seen these people before in my life.”
His furious mum, Gillian Logue, who is originally from Port Glasgow, had only just dropped her son and his sibling off so they could get something to eat when it happened.
When she returned 10 minutes later to collect them she found her son in tears.
Gillian said: “I was trying to give them a wee bit of independence.
“I drove over to pick them up again and found my son standing there crying and was told he had been assaulted by this girl for no reason – her and a group of boys started on them.
“I’m really angry about it.
“It’s a very vicious attack on a vulnerable boy.
“This person needs to be caught before somebody else is hurt.
“Our children should be able to feel safe in our town.”
The girl is described as 13 or 14 with waist-length brown hair and was wearing a dark blue Nike baseball cap, camouflage style jacket, white ripped jeans, and had make-up on.
The incident has been reported to police and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Sergeant Laura Stewart, of Greenock police, said: “We received an allegation of an assault and we have made enquiries.
“If anyone witnessed it please contact police on 101.”
