Do you love Brussels sprouts?

I love buying them fresh, slicing them in half, brushing them in olive oil and kosher salt, and baking them.

Love them! I usually have them boiled or steamed. They taste great with blue cheese or stilton grated over them.

Brussels sprouts are awesome. I'll admit I primarily buy frozen ones that you can just steam in the bag but hey, they last longer than fresh ones and it's always good to have some in the freezer for when I need them.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who loves Brussels sprouts! They are actually one of my favorite foods.
@Metalhead Once again, we are “favorite food twins.”

They're farmed locally here, so when they're in season, one can visit the Sunday market and get freshly cut stalks for $2 or something like that.

I didn't like them until I learned to cook them precisely, and a bit longer than other veggies. I'm neutral on the flavour then, so I can get to appreciate the ease of keeping them. I'm a long way from the organic food store.

I wonder if you can peel the stalk and then steam and eat it? I do that with broccoli stalks all the time.

I have had good ones but generally the Brussels sprout is not for me.

Also I don't like being downwind of sprouts enthusiasts.

I absolutely love brussel sprouts. I love them steamed, with nothing on them. Can never get enough!

Oh my. If someone offered me some, I'd probably respond in a knee-jerk reaction as struggle to grasp for the nearest crucifix. Though discussions like this remind me of my problem of a limited diet which includes nearly no leafy-greens. Iceberg lettuce, cabbage and cilantro....that's about it.

This thread actually reminds me that my nearly 96 year old grandpa didn't like Brussels sprouts until about a month ago because it turns out that for literally his entire life, he'd been eating them completely unseasoned. Not even any butter!

Parmesan would be ok, but I don't like lemon juice. Lemons are definitely overrated in my opinion.

I try to avoid salt and find that the juice and zest of some citrus fruits are good substitutes for salt and enhance flavors of some foods. But one can definitely use too much acid in foods and many people don't like the sour and acidic flavors. If food is too salty, I won't eat it. Restaurant food is often too salty for my taste.

Cheeses like Parmesan are very salty, too so salting the food and also applying a salty cheese would be too much for my taste buds.

They're sure showing up on restaurant menus a lot more lately. I've always liked them, back to when I was a kid. It was a novelty then to eat a "miniature cabbage." It used to be that they were always overcooked, I guess steamed or boiled, and I actually liked them that way. Nowadays they are all heavily seasoned. I've also heard that what you buy today are hybrids, designed to be less bitter.
