"Potatoes, unless they are shredded, do not freeze well. They undergo radical changes in texture and taste when frozen. In the case of potato salad there is also the mayonnaise and other ingredients that do not freeze well. When frozen, the liquid ingredients tend to separate from the solids and when the salad is thawed, the result is more akin to potato salad soup than what it started as. A better option is to simply refrigerate the salad for a few days if it is required before an event. There is no long term storage method for the dish that works well and it is better to purchase or prepare fresh."
Can you freeze potato salad?

I would say this is true from personal experience, too.

How long did you want to keep it?
If it's not too long, it would be ok in the refrigerator.

A week wouldn't be long.
Two weeks might be ok, if it's sealed well and
you didn't touch the contents/open it.

well was going to buy 2 tubs, one in the fridge for the 1st week and the other to freeze for 1 week, then defrost in the fridge overnight for the following week.

I wanted to freeze it as the use by dates are only for 1 week
I shop fortnightly.

Use by dates aren't all that accurate.
If the stuff isn't open or touched, I'd try
to keep it for two weeks.

If it were me, that is.
I used to go shopping once a month.

Also, I used to keep enough food in the house
to last a year.

hmmm i might give it a go... what about a pasta salad for my second week... would that live longer than potato? ...is just id be opening it every night throughout the week to add to my dinner plate.

I have tupperware bowls that seal up good

Im a repetitive eater lol... trying to figure out cheap alternatives that last long, that also taste good with my roast chicken.

Seems like it could work.

The second week it would be especially important to
use a clean spoon to serve out the portion from
the container. Like, don't eat from the container,
or lick the spoon and then dip out more.

I have eaten the same thing almost every night
since November.

Thanks for your help... i shall try potato salad for 1st week and pasta salad for the 2nd week... fingers crossed it stays tasty in the fridge :)

Mayo just doesn't freeze well. It's delicate. But if you put it in the back of the fridge where it's colder, and don't open it, that could work.

I would try the pasta salad for week 2. I'm worried the mayo would spoil or something, even if it's industrial, but I can't speak from experience because mayo is one of my major food aversions.
However, as a repetitive eater myself (1 and a half years of hoppin' john for lunch 5 days a week, with no intention of stopping), I see why you want your potato salad over and over again.
So: have you tried making it, maybe? Uncut, uncooked potatoes keep fairly well, and mayo in the jar definitely keeps for longer than 2 weeks, so maybe that would solve your problem?

Thanks for the suggestion, but it would cost me alot more money to buy the ingredients and make it as compared to the $4 750gram tub. Gotta stick to my budget.

I guess ill find out next week if the pasta salad goes bad lol

as long as its something creamy.. pasta salad is an acceptable substitute lol
if that doesnt work...ill try coleslaw maybe on the next shop

Oh. Yeah, you can't beat that price with homemade. I'd still follow the instructions on keeping your other salad to the back of the fridge and using clean cutlery to serve, though.

hello jennacide another way would be to vacuum pack you can buy machines maybe amazon or others my mam(mom) made hers adding heinz salad cream instead of MAYONNAISE- i like it with chopped chives
