Can't Find a Therapist

I've been having a lot of trouble finding a psychotherapist. I live in New Jersey and have Medicaid and am also registered with the DDD (Department of Developmental Disabilities). Medicaid therapists tend to be in clinics and they are very overwhelming for me sensory-wise. When I went to a clinic they said I was too agitated to do therapy so they suggested I find a therapist in a smaller office but I have been unable to find one that takes Medicaid. The DDD can't seem to find me a therapist either, they seem to only have them for crises and I am not considered to be in a crisis. I was told to contact Autism Speaks. I know some people consider them to be unethical and also when I went on their website they don't seem to have psychotherapists anyway so no point in calling them. Does anyone know of any other autism organizations that are perhaps more ethical that may be able to refer me to something? I feel like I have seen some organization names posted here in the past but can't seem to remember them. Or if anyone is in New Jersey do you know of any good therapists or anything about navigating DDD?

Can't you do telehealth/telemedicine? Medicaid now pays for it. I have it and it is good. I know the trouble you said is finding one in the first place. What county are you in? Have you tried all these?

Your insurer should have an online directory where you can search for any specialist you need. Once you find that, you can check out their website and search for reviews online or call and ask questions.

If you can't find a website, there should be a number for customer service on the back of your card where someone should be able to help you find a therapist. They should also know which telemedicine providers you can use.

In the meantime or if you can't find anyone, there are self-help books available using CBT that might be helpful. I found the videos at the following link to be very helpful -

Thank you!

Telehealth is starting to slip as people get squirrely. I have had more annoyed drs and therapists as of late. You know, laundry to be folded, etc. I have been treated especially rude if I have an issue, like video not working, etc. People are getting annoyed and they are taking out on whoever is on the other end. Today, wow, utter annoyance on her face so bad I hung up
