Quite new to the forum, and internet forums in general (I prefer reading Wikipedia articles and sometimes blogs).
I find this pointsystem pretty odd, I see how it works but why was it put in place? (this is not intended as criticism)

Welcome :)

I think it's an incentive to get people engaging more. Considering some Aspies are a little hesitant to join in conversations, it's not a bad idea. They just make you feel good really; everyone likes to be rewarded for their efforts.

After accumulating sufficient points, you may send them in with a few cereal box tops for a mecha component. Then we all get together at midnight, under the full moon at Stonehenge with our mecha pieces and put them together to make like a huge Transformer that can only be operated by someone with atypical neurology. This is Phase 1 of the takeover.

Points?
Are you all discussing the "likes"?
Or trophies?
Like...I like likes, like, a lot.

Hi Militantbuddhist, welcome to our special place :)

Yes the points, they prevented me for a long time from signing up and participating as it reminded me of Facebook and Twitter competition, quantity before quality thinking.

However, like Rocco said, I too absolutely love getting likes, they make me feel all warm and supported; I just wish we could have the Likes without the counting . . .

I hope though that, like myself, you will find that being here is just the best thing :)
