Cats.

I get a big comfort from cats. I may be wrong but I think a fair few people with ASD can kind of relate to them!?

Sometimes when I don’t want any kind of human contact, I used to just cuddle with the cat and I would get an enormous sense of comfort.

Anyone else?

Sadly my cat got run over a few years ago and couldn’t bring myself to get another as he was such a comfort I didn’t want anything like that to ever happen again.

I love cats! If I woke up on a planet entirely inhabited by cats I would be basically in heaven. Now I must go and figure out where my cat is as I'm long overdue for some cuddles :-)

Yes, cats and also dogs and even some other animals. The simpler in a way more understandable relationship is very supportitive and of course works both ways.

I’m a pretty stereotypical “dog person” but I also absolutely love cats (and horses.) I will definitely get a cat someday.

It’s a myth that dog owners have to hate cats and vice versa, I love both!

Myself, I love Chihuahuas, Chihuahua mixes and even any small dog that identifies as a Chihuahua. Never a dull moment ! :D

I love cats too. Once I learned more about their body language, needs, and communication style, I really came to enjoy them. Like us, they're not big on eye contact (as I'm sure you know). I had one years ago that I lost when a relationship ended. I still miss her. And a couple others I enjoyed while in other relationships. One used to leave me dead bats and mice on the bathroom floor many mornings. :)

That’s a sign they love you!

Want a cat to love you...just pretend not to like cats. I've only had three days in living memory when I haven't had a cat. Between the passing of CatCat and the coming of Potato Cat.

Yes, I love cats so much. They're probably my favorite animal but I don't have any pet cats myself. I love when I go out for walks and end up seeing a cat walking around outside. I don't try to pet them but I like to try and take a picture and maybe even a video of them if I can.

My mom had a cat named Salem and he was a black cat and I'd see him every summer whenever I'd visit her when I was younger. A lot of the times when I was visiting her, I'd wake up to Salem curled up and sleeping next to me or sometimes even on top of me. I've read that cats prefer to sleep where they feel safe and protected from any predators, so I guess this means he trusted me and that's why he'd sleep by me a lot of the times (Also probably to stay warm too)

There was one time where it was literally just me and him in the house nearly all day (older sister went into labor pretty early in the morning, so her, my mom, and her husband [my mom's husband] were at the hospital) and he literally just followed me around all day long. Sat next to me on the bench in the dining room table as I ate, looked into my bag of stuff with me as I was looking for something, uhh literally started scratching at the door to the bathroom to be let in. Also IDK if this was that day or another day, but one time when it was late at night (talking like 3am or so) I was trying to get some sleep but Salem knew I wasn't asleep and started doing that light scratching thing cats do for attention lol.

I miss him, he died a few years ago and it had been a few years since I last saw him. I wonder if he still remembered me until he died.

I freaking love cats they are such comfy companions. I have always liked cats since I was a small kid. They just have an unexplained thing about them. They are very independent and interesting beings.

And here I thought this was an Andrew Lloyd Weber thread.

Cats are evil and defiant.
Only if one doesn't understand and respect them. As with all living things they can sense animosity and respond accordingly. People and dogs, as well...

And not all people are pet people, (which is reasonable).

I love cats. Love most animals, really, but I’ve always lived with cats. I have two senior cats (or The Elder Cats, as I like to refer to them) that always bring me comfort. I also adopted a kitten last summer, which I grew really attached to (and vice versa) very quickly, but he had to be rehomed because he didn’t quite get along with the Elder Cats.

There is something about being “chosen” by an animal that gives me so much comfort and joy. Cats are just great company for me. Our energies match.

Seen here: my lil’ buddy Loki, before he moved to a new house with cats that do enjoy playing with a loud little rascal.

Newest research on Cat domestication is interesting and supports previous belief it occurred in Mesopotamia about 10-12 thousand years ago concurrent with the development of farming and sedentary living in people. Also interesting is that cats are only considered 'semi-domesticated' and retain the ability to revert to wild. Notice the African wildcat and modern tabby above. The wild cat is the tabby's closest relative and considered the probable direct ancestor of the tabby. Cats haven't changed much in size, nature or habit, say in comparison to how much dogs have diverged (or been bred) from wolves.

Genetics of randomly bred cats support the cradle of cat domestication being in the Near East - Heredity
