Cheapest price for an Amazon Echo?

Topic.

They're £99.99 in Argos, and £150 on Amazon itself, can you get them cheaper, legally in the UK, anywhere else?

I know you have to buy the subscription from Amazon to use it, does anyone know how much that is per month in UK money?

Unless you plan to use it as a music system and you don't have a stereo system I'd say go for the Echo Dot. I have one and it does everything the bigger one can it just has a lesser quality speaker. I connect it to my Denon Hifi and blast any music I have from my prime subscription through that. Works fine.

You're right, it would be my main music system, and I don't have a Stereo system, Stereos are so 80's.

It costs me £8 a month for Amazon Prime, that gets me access to some of the music. I don't know what Music Unlimited costs though.

I can look that up, Google here I come. Just Googled it and it's super cheap, £3.99 a month for 40 Million songs.

Yeah, needless to say that's better for your purposes. Echo and Prime are only good together if you want to live like the adverts show. You know, the cheesy adverts where they're buying stuff through it. I can't say I'd like to buy something if I don't have a image of what it is that I'm buying.

I googled it as that seemed very cheap. Amazon UK tells me it's £7.99 a month for music unlimited (40 million songs) and £9.99 a month if you don't have/want the rest of the Prime benefits.

I have the Echo Dot and its quite good. I use it as an alarm clock, to play music and to read audiobooks to me. :D

"If it's too good to be true, it probably is." ;)

It all comes down to how one subjectively perceives sound and music. The £7.99 a month charge allows you to pair sound output to other far more sophisticated devices which may produce rich multi-channel, multi-dimensional sound. The £3.99 a month plan does not allow you to pair the Echo/Echo Dot with any other device.

Quoting Amazon UK FAQs:

What is the Echo plan?

We know how important music is to Amazon Echo owners, so we created a special subscription plan just for them. For only £3.99/month, listen to Amazon Music Unlimited on a single Amazon Echo or Echo Dot. Amazon Music Unlimited has a catalogue of 40 million songs, so now you can ask Alexa to play just about any song or artist. Think of Amazon Echo plus Amazon Music Unlimited as the ultimate personalised jukebox, with you or Alexa as the DJ. To start your free trial, just ask, "Alexa, try Amazon Music Unlimited".

Do I need the Echo plan to listen on my Amazon Echo or Echo Dot?

No, all Amazon Music Unlimited subscription plans work on Amazon Echo. So does Prime Music. The Echo plan is a special low-cost subscription plan designed for Amazon Echo owners who want to listen to Amazon Music Unlimited on a single Amazon Echo but aren't interested in listening on other devices like smartphones, tablets, computers or multiple Amazon Echo devices.

So it simply comes down to how you like the sound outputted from the Echo or Echo Dot itself. Though I'm amused with C|Net's consensus over which of the two sound better by themselves: neither. :p

Quoted from C|Net:

"Which one's better? Well, let me put it this way: what's your favorite kind of dental surgery? While neither speaker is outright awful, I wouldn't buy either of them if sound quality was my primary aim. With all of the smarts built into each of them, music performance appears to take a back seat. At best you could say that the Google Home is a "decent" TV speaker while the Amazon is an average one. So, the Google wins right? Well, not exactly."

Amazon Echo vs. Google Home: Which sounds better?

Having a choice of 40 million songs outputted through a sound source that may be little better than a transistor radio or tv set? No thanks. Suddenly that "80s" stereo sounds pretty nice in comparison. ;)

How much would it cost to pair the Echo wireless to my Xbox One for instance?

You already quoted the answer to that question. See above.

Assuming of course you actually can pair an XBox to an Echo. And then to consider what device your XBox is presently connected to for sound output. (Audio system, tv set, etc.)

Hi, I want to convince my parents to buy the Amazon Echo Dot for me. But my parents want to know with which products are compatible in this device, because I want to build my one smart home for my flat. I found some compatible products under devicebase.net/en/product/amazon-echo-dot-1st-generation/841667112367

However, I would be very grateful to you if you would help me with a complete list of compatible products as I have to convince my parents of the purchase.

Thanks

You do realize this is not an Amazon Echo support forum?
And a thread that has been dead for over half a year?

I am not a huge fan of the Amazon Echo and Alexa. It's security is a little dubious at best. Come to think of it, I really don't champion any IoT devices at all.

I don't see the harm in asking a question. Aren't we all here to help each other and support each other anyways?
Yeah, but since this person seems to have joined the forums specifically to post this question, I just wanted to clear up any possible confusion. I’m not being hostile? Just pointing out that there are probably better places to get this specific information.

Good point. It's a potential problem that third party bots are harvesting such threads where outsiders are seeking only technical information rather than joining a community whose primary concern revolves around understanding and support for autistic people.

Despite the stereotype, the reality is that only some of us are hardcore "geeks".

Well, the thread is in the ‘Computers, Science and Technology’ section. He could also have chosen to place it in the ‘Off Topic’ section or any other section I may have missed out. They’re there for a reason. :D

Yes- but for whom? ;)

Neurotypical masses drawn here through search engine bots who may have no interest in autism or autistic people, or those Neurodiverse people with interests in technology?

As a one-time incident it probably doesn't matter. But if it begins to trend with so much routine data harvesting by third parties, it may become a real problem in the future, potentially upsetting the chemistry of this online community whose primary focus remains on autism.

I don't think this has occurred before, but I'm glad someone caught it whether it's problematic or not.

Whoever runs this website should take down all sections that are not autism-related. Until this happens, we will use the forum how we normally do.
