Since it's that time of year (and we already had a wonderful thread for gift-giving), I figured it would be really cool to see some of the coolest stuff everybody received!

Feel free to post your favorites, the unusual or unique ones, or whatever else you find interesting!

Gifts that a friend and I got for ourselves lol

I got a battery. I mean okay technically this was a birthday present but that was in December so technically I got it during the holiday season.

This thing:

Necessary for this PC to function at all, but also keeps it protected from the frequent power fluctuations around here. It took me awhile to get it 100% set up (there is software and such that goes with it) and it weighs like 8 tons but there ya go.

Also it entertains me greatly to say "I got a battery" in the same tone as Charlie Brown saying "I got a rock" when people ask. Though of course in reality it is very useful and came with a whole bloody computer. I just think it's funny to say that and watch people's expressions go all bluescreen, as I imagine they think of little AA things when I say it.

Also I've used some of the random gift card money and such to get a couple of things so far, one of which is Filter Forge, which I got after seeing it used so much in that art remix thread, it goes along with my other art programs really well, so I got the pro edition of that along with the librarian app and such that goes with it.

Lastly so far, there was some board game stuff, also bought with gift cards:

Board games are one of my hobbies/interests... not competitive though, I play solo games, or co-op games since those can be played solo (by multi-handing)... and I suddenly found out that this game just abruptly released out of nowhere. It seems kinda random and weird looking in the photo, but it's part of a series of games just called the Oniverse games, I'm a huge fan of all of them, so I had to have this. I also saw a chance to get the other 2 games in the series that I was missing as well, so I bought all of those. These are smaller games and dont cost all that much. But they're soooooooooo good. I really cant wait to try it.

I havent done it yet but there's a decent chance I'm also going to buy the new edition of Zombicide with other gift cards I likely will get. That's usually how it goes with me, for birthday & holiday. Everyone finds me very hard to buy for (because my hobbies are way out of their own ranges) so they usually just get me gift cards and I just do whatever.

As for stuff I got for family, the standout gift is a chess-related book. My father wants to play chess with me a lot... particularly as it's something easy to do while he continues to deal with his eye problem... and so he wants me to try to learn and improve more, and thus teach him so he can do the same, and we can improve together. So, I researched chess books, and picked one, and that'll be his gift. The funny part though is he really doesnt like reading books for whatever reason... I'll be the one actually doing the reading and then can teach him directly after I've had time to absorb the lesson, and we'll go from there.

I gave myself a new tv for the livingroom, it's using less electricity than the old one
I bought us a new TV (50") plus a sound bar and together they pull less than half an amp. I know this because the UPS I mentioned above told me so. I'm shocked it uses so little power.

I guess I should list my new camera. It gets it's first proper work out in just a few hour's time. I should be in bed but I'm not tired.

I feel like these have gone up in price, but since I don't have one I had to order a starter kit (and a pre-soldered additional Pi because why isn't this one pre-soldered?). I can't wait to get cooler components for this and Arduino in the future, but at least it'll be fun to mess with for a while

I ordered a leotard or two for ballet class, and some tops. I ordered some cooking things that draw less electricity and are easy to clean. And l am not depressed this season because a friend from very long ago reached out to me and l enjoy cheering them up, for the kindness they showed me at the lowest point in my entire life, it was so bad, l was on antidepressants. They are now 74 years old, and l feel its my turn to brighten their life and show kindness. I really want to do volunteer work and that sorta bums me out that l just haven't been able to for reasons that are difficult for me to discuss.

Edit: A promise to myself for a stress free new year in 2023.

We've just got a multi-fuel stove, replacing the open fire. Wow it makes a huge difference! We used money presents we got for our wedding and for Christmas to pay for it. The cat loves it too. She put £10 towards it... money well spent, she now says.

For xmas I got a mega technical Maromot waterproof for running, a lego jigsaw (last years lego jigsaw nearly gave me a breakdown, so not so sure about this one ;-) ) and a jar of pickled onions.

Here are my gifts from friends and family. Simple but nice.

- Setter dog couch cushion (featuring English, Irish, Gordon, and Irish red & white Setters)

- Full set of Rally Obedience command signs, sign holders, retrieving dumbbell, and traffic cones and a training jump (cones and jump not pictured.)
Now I can teach Rally classes at my facility!

- Laptop sleeve since I now have a 17 inch laptop and only had a 15 inch case

- Continued subscription to my magazine for dog breeders and show dog handlers

- Replacements for my two favorite pairs of sneakers that I have worn almost every day for 5 years and run into the ground

- “The Genius of Dogs” book about the science and research behind dog intelligence (they are smarter than you think!)

- Cute dog figurines, including two sugar skull dogs which I collect

- Handmade makeup bag (with dogs on it… obviously)

- T-shirt from Quebec

- Dog breed chart from the 1800s (reprinted obviously) featuring a Pointer, of course

- “When You Love a Dog” book (happy, not sad, but made me emotional)

- Christmas coffee cup decoration (I have an autumn one too)

- Pens and chip clips since I always seem to be misplacing those

- Papaya facial moisturizer

And here are my gifts for my dogs… each dog got a specific toy, there are 7… can you guess which is which?
Plus a designer leash and a canister of gourmet treats.

I love the classic Adidas Sambas - That is the only sneaker I wear except chucks .
I have been wearing and buying Sambas for over 25 years . Only sneakers that I like . They last a long time too .When I was a kid I preferred the Adidas Gazelle
Other than that I wear Harley Davidson boots . Which last me forever too .

I wonder who will know who and what it is ?
This has got my mind racing now. First thought is that it's some kind of filter feeder like a sponge. But considering your other posts on this forum it also looks like the correct size and dimensions to be an LP record cover.

My brother gave me some percussion primers for making shotgun cartridges, and some barrel brushes in obsolete sizes for gun gauges that they rarely make. Most of my gun stuff is old Victorian and Edwardian sporting/hunting arms and the old black powder rusts the barrels badly so these copper scrubbers would keep them clean. Why I don't buy modern guns I'm not really sure. Maybe because I prefer looking at rusty junk.

The absolute coolest present was a special lamp chimney for a 14-ligne Kosmos oil lamp from the late 1800s. It triples the light output and cuts the smell entirely.

Best gift? Time with family and friends, going to church with everyone and it wasn't weird, good music, and my girlfriend hanging out texting with me on the phone.

Yeah it looks like he got a phonograph record. But who's on it?
